Engine grinding noise
Sorry to hear about your troubles. At least they've acknowledged that the noise is not normal and requires further investigation. Hopefully, Porsche will take a thorough look at it and not try to blow you off.
I've got a similar noise problem, but mine is definitely coming from the transaxle, not the engine itself. A distinct whining sound in 1st gear accompanied by some grinding noises when the engine & drivetrain are up to operating temperature. (I'm 100% sure that something's not right). Was able to get a Porsche area technician to drive the car and he was able to hear the sounds, but claimed it was probably normal for the new 7 speed manual. My SA also chimed in saying "hey, don't worry, you've got 3 years of warranty left." That's all fine and dandy, however I'd rather not be forced to put up with something that's definitely amiss with the car.
Evidently, customer satisfaction regarding service isn't a top priority.

Very difficult to hear or tell what's going on.
Leave it where it is, let them do their thing. Call PCNA again to notify them.
While I understand the rationale behind the suggestion of driving it until it blows up, this approach is slightly draconian.

Yes I have a loaner, this sucks, I did contact PCNA because of my other trim warranty problems they didn't do S.*** so I'm assuming its just waste of time..
have two options
1- just wait till tomorrow see what Porsche is going to do
2- just take the car to another dealer, some times some they go the extra mile

I have appointment for Monday, but my car is still at PP, yesterday I went there to check on the seat and the engine... on the seat they didn't wanted to do it, but I talked to the Service Manager, she was going to check and on the engine, they told me they sent Ptech or something like that to Germany and they are waiting to hear from them, today I texted the S.A and also called, haven't received an update yet or call..what I can probably do is get my car back and take it to Plano
Which is probably why our cars depreciate so rapidly...
Or a Mercedes, or a BMW, or an Audi. All of these cars are getting so sophisticated that when something like a DCT lets go, it's going to be big bucks.
So what is it? They are covering it, or not? If they don't want to, but they are, who cares? They're covering it, that's all that matters. Me thinks maybe thou does complain too much.
I can't hear anything either. Does it just happen when idling, or also when underway? Maybe it's just something like an alternator bearing, or a rock stuck in a heat shield.

What does this exactly mean?
What difference would this make regarding any warranty issues? Like who is the judge of who is "true" to the brand? Sounds bizarre ..

well I have the same question lol... it doesn't matter if its my first or 5th car, but if it was my first of course it would be the last too..

When I purchased my 991, it was with the clear intention to sell or trade it in shortly before the warranty expired and accept the expected 50% or so depreciation. Depending on my priorities and resources when that time comes, it may or may not lead to the purchase of another Porsche or other German car as a replacement.

Hello all, my car is been at the dealer for a little over a week, cosmetic repair on my seats under warranty( which they don't want to cover) but also for a Grinding noise coming from my engine, after more then a week the S.A is telling me that they checked codes, all the fluids and basically all they need it to checked and found nothing, but the grinding noise is still present. they told me that they sent Porsche Germany a PT or something like that telling them about the problem, because they don't know what else to do and Porsche needs to tell them what would be the next step, since they can't just open engines or stuff like they have to wait for there response, in case they send new engine, new clutch etc etc.. first time that this happens to me and this is my 6th Porsche and getting a little frustrated , anyways does this sounds like normal procedure? thanks
talked to my S.A they think the noise is coming from the transmission, they received instructions and apparently the car was at the lift this afternoon, the Tech had the car hooked up to the PC and he was checking whatever Germany told them to check for on the computer
.. tomorrow I'm just picking up my car

How about a magnetic plug for either the transmission drain or oil... That would at least give us peace of mind that it's just a grinding sound as opposed to actual grinding of metallic engine components...
