Where to purchase insurance for a HPDE event?

Hi All,
I'm taking my 991S (non-convertible) to the track for the first time ever. Very excited. I'll be doing Stage 1 with Sim Raceway at Sonoma. http://simracewaydrivingschool.com/e...e-1-one-day-6/

I checked with my insurance carrier, AIG, and they do not cover insurance. Any recommendations on whom to call for a one-day policy for this event? 2 colleagues are coming along, one with an MB AMG and one with a Corvette.

Thanks for the help.

I purchase my HPDE insurance via Lockton Affinity. You can obtain a quote through Motorsportreg.com. The cover specific events, so you can find out if your event is covered by using their calendar. They insure to a maximum value of $125K agreed upon value.

We use Lockton as well. Insurance for our modded '08 Cayman S is $185 for a two day event at Sebring.

It'll be quite a bit higher for the Carrera.

If it's your first time out, you should be fine without track insurance 99% of the time, if price is a concern. Although it will give you a huge peace of mind with it.

Lockton and OnTrackInsurance offering HPDE insurance. There are others but I mention these two because people have made claims against them and have been paid. HPDE insurance is not cheap but is worth the peace of mind. I pay about $650 for about $100K value. Think the max is something like $125K. You should be fine as long as you drive within your limits and leave the ego at home. But you never know...another car slams into you, oil spills, etc. Sonoma has some walls so be careful.

Thanks for the feedback. I will quote Lockton and OnTrackInsurance. Looks like for $100K in insured value, it's about $600. Pricey for sure but i'll feel better about it. Good news is, if I wreck the car my first $600 is paid for a 4S Targa upgrade

Good luck at the event! I'm going to yet another day at Willow Springs on the 18th. Do you have a GoPro? Get some clips.

Cost also depends on which track. Road America and Watkins Glen have the highest claims and therefore the highest premium.

I just got a quote for Road America for a $75,000 (bluebook value) 991 it was over $650.

Peace of mind since you never know what others are going to do. Or other random stuff.

I ran Watkins Glen in August. It was a three day event. In the three days, three cars totaled and one that could go either way. Three from coolant leaks & one uncontrolled drift into a wall. As someone quoted on this forum, and I am paraphrasing here - if you track sooner or later something will go wrong. I am tracking at a two day event in October on a fairly benign track & HPDE cost is $928 for my C2 with a 10k deductible & $110k agreed upon value. Worth every penny for peace of mind.

If you plan to do several DE's within the next year, Lockton gives you the opportunity to buy a 'package' covering multiple events at a lower rate. You just go online prior to the DE and use the dropdown menu to select the event for which you want to be covered.
The problem with Lockton is that you have to request coverage by midnight the day before the DE. If you forgot to do it, no matter how early it is in the morning, you will not get coverage.
I do not remember how OnTrack rates compare to Lockton, but the great thing with them is that if you make up your mind at the last minute or forgot to buy your insurance before the day of the DE, there is always someone to pick up the phone and get it resolved on the spot.

I was at Watkins Glen over the weekend and at least two cars were totaled, one of them was an instructors car (fluid leak, span). It was my first time at WG so i took track insurance from on track insurance, for $580. Lockton wanted over $900. Be aware your deductible will be 10% or 15%.

this was also the first time i had taken the 991 to the track, i have a new found appreciation for the car and its capabilities.

I am curious, what was your agreed upon coverage value. Also, how many days did the event cover?

Lockton covers multi-day events at the same price.

So a one day event at Road America was $695. And the 2 days Chin event was also $695.

Good deal if doing two days.
