991.2 C2S - 530hp / 520 lb ft
You could get a crotch rocket! Could do 0-60 in 2.5 seconds!
If the BMW M2 is going to have 400HP, the horsepower race seems to be on between the competition.
Codenamed S57 B30, the engine could produce as much as 400 bhp (298 kW) in the M2 as Nitschke believes this is the "magic number." He went on to say that hitting this mark won't be a problem thanks to forced induction but they will have to make sure not to step on the M4's toes which packs a 425 bhp (317 kW) punch from its S55 B30 twin-turbo engine.

And Mercedes AMG GT news:
Earlier this month we found out Mercedes-AMG is cooking up a Black Series version of the new GT but now AMG's boss Tobias Moers has confirmed another derivative is in the works, described as a street-legal GT3. Obviously, it will end up being a direct adversary to Porsche's 911 GT3 and will likely come out in a couple of years as Moers confirmed the GT3-spec AMG GT will be available in time for the 2016 season. The vehicle will pack more power in a lighter body compared to the AMG GT S which offers 510 HP (375 kW) in a 1,570 kg (3,461 lbs) package. Moers hinted the output will probably rise to approximately 550 HP (404 kW) and by using lighter materials weight will be down between 80 and 100 kg (176 and 220 lbs).

You know we gotta love these times, the hp wars are back on. And we get mid 20's for mileage, if you take it easy.
It is hard to believe that Porsche would jump that much in hp ratings, given their conservative bumps each year. Maybe they need to push the Carrera up so that the Cayman/Boxsters can make 400hp.

Don't race, you already won. There is no way to use the power on the street of even a base 991 so more power is just good for bragging or street racing which is really stupid and a good way to lose your car. If you want to track, get a race car. Street cars make bad race cars IMO. Sure, some are very fast but they don't have a roll cage, fire extinguisher system ...... and you can't actually road race them.
Power is not everything but you can't deny that a $130K 400hp C2S will push some people away when they can get a F-Type, AMG GT, etc. On the street people tend to use more of the car's absolute straight line power than cornering abilities. You're not going to be cornering at crazy speeds but you're sure going to WOT on freeway entrances. Porsche definitely needs to bump all models by about 50-75hp.

You misunderstood me. Not talking about street people or street racing. I'm saying that on public roads, people use straightline performance more than cornering/handling abilities. Very few people actually track their cars. But they all WOT on freeway entrances, while passing, etc. Here, the 911 could use more torque and power.

A lot of people buy these cars for the brand name, horsepower, and performance bragging rights regardless if they'll ever use the car to its potential. These car companies want to sell cars, and whatever the appeal is to its market.
A lot of guys look at how much horsepower and brand name bragging rights they can talk about at the office, forums, and happy hour.
I'm not saying this is right, but lately it seems like the HP bragging rights have picked up steam with the manufacturers.

Horsepower wars have really picked up the last three years.
The average person on the receiving end of these conversations can pretty much relate to brand name, 0-60 times, and horsepower. Anything track related is over their heads.
The grown up version of who has the bigger dick.
Everything has it fads, but HP along with the muscle car comeback is here!! Of course it's always been around since the first car, but it's made a retro repeat once again!

Not to mention, what percentage of exotic owners actually track their cars?? The bread and butter sales numbers aren't with the track rats. They're with the guys buying a new car every 6 months to every couple years when the latest and greatest comes about.
I'm a victim of it too! Bought the C2S. Is the base Carrera a great car? Absolutely. If you're going to spend over 100K, shouldn't you have more than 350HP than the base has though?
A lot of guys are driving around cars with more HP for less money. It's not that you're going to race everyone, but you know who would win regardless. Sometimes packing the bigger gun is all you need without having to shoot.
At the end of the day a lot of people buy cars for status symbols and pissing matches at happy hour and the office. I'm not one of those, but prefer to be low key. I buy what I like for myself and could care less about what others think (but I'm in the minority I think).

Macan- all turbos
Cayennes- higher end models use turbos
Panameras- turbo 6 or turbo 8 available
Only a matter of time folks.
Agree!
There is no way the 991.2 S has 520 hp. The hp gains will be similar to that of the recent Panamera/Cayenne transition where each had minimal hp gains but more modest gains in torque due to turbo charging.
There is no doubt the competition for hp is heating up now that turbo charging is widely used and hp gains are much easier to attain. However, what's the point if I can't be used? We have all seen people mod out their cars yet not really gain any real significant increase in performance. Yet they can claim, "my ride has 1000hp dude!" Who cares. My 991 TT scares the crap out me, that's enough.
