Smile 991 in the Snow

How are you guys liking your 991 in the snow?

This is my first winter with mine (2014 C2.) I drove my 987 Cayman through 7 winters so I'm pretty familiar with that car in the snow, but this is my first winter with the 991.

I've found ground clearance is good. Traction is decent and it's pretty comfortable.

I do notice that the 20" wheels can really pack up with snow on the inside and vibrate like crazy at highway speeds. I actually had to pull into a parking lot and scrape all the snow out from inside them.

How's everyone else liking their cars in the snow?

Few pis from yesterday in Toronto.

These are my snow tires (bought from a fellow member on here - thank you very much!)

I've got a '14 C4S, have only gone through the snow on a few days with 6" or so of snow and have been extremely impressed , better than my A4 Quattro and BMW 335Xi (neither had snow tires). I took off my 20" summer wheels, and bought some 19" OZ wheels and put on Pirelli Sottozero snows. I've been looking forward to more snow since this car is so much fun and so capable in the snow so far.

I love it in the snow. Just put on Porsche ski rack. Let it snow. Cannot wait to take it back out on frozen lake racing.

Even a 2S with winter tires is extremely capable in the snow. I daily drove all through last winter -- rivers of slush, heavy ice, etc -- with no issues whatsoever. Dunlop winters in 19".

Oh Hawc,

Weren't we just talking a few months back about you girlfriend saying you kill yourself keeping that black car clean? I have to say I am impressed with your adaptation to the weather. We had a few days of rain this week in San Diego and my white C2S became a garage queen. I will try to learn from your example.

Haha. Yup. Now a lot of that snow has already melted and the cars are filthy.

Car looks great. Love the winter setup, and I agree, the car is a true champ in the snow!

Great video! I thought I would pop in from the 991 Turbo forum since the 991 forum keeps the party going in the winter! Here is my 2015 Turbo S ready for a run around the lake. It recently got too warm around here but the cold will be back soon.

A perfect day for the lake!

You guys are inspiring me to ditch my winter beater, get some snows, and drive the C2S all year around.

Anyone had issues with windows being frozen and not able to close the door properly during freezing rain?

That is a problem that I occasionally run into with my BMW (with frameless window).

I have not had any issues with frozen windows. And I do wash it all winter. Marc

I have had an issue opening a door during freezing rain once.... but no problems shutting a door. I guess you could get some ice bits stuck along the top edge of the window where it meets the rubber weather stripping, which might keep the window from seating properly upon close. But is that a big deal?

The bigger issue I have is that my windshield washer fluid reservoir keeps freezing, and then if I am driving in bad conditions can bring me to the side of the road! I've had the dealer change-out the fluid twice, and I've even added my own fluid mixture to prevent freezing. But it keeps happening. I think the placement of the fluid reservoir up close to the hood and near the windshield causes this. Not sure how there would be any warmth to this area at all.

Anyone else experience this in winter conditions?
