Negotiation for used cars
Nothing like seeing a $130k Carrera optioned to the moon. I think I would rather have a base model GT3. However, people do like their comfort features. I think I would find comfort in the rawness of the GT3.
I agree with you. I priced up a GT3 and to me it is the best deal if you want a sports car.
The best thing is to just take your time and don't be afraid to wait the right one out. I just purchased my first one. I've been wanting a 911 and have been in love with them since before I could drive. Fast forward almost 30 years and it's here. I found my 13 C2S almost 800 miles away, purchased a $200 plane ticket and drove it back.
Now negotiating, I was looking for certain color/option combos and found only a couple for sale in a nationwide search. I was prepared for little to no negotiation, but from a long previous career in the car business I knew there was some to be had.
First, the one I found wasn't at a Porsche dealer but at a Chevy dealer. The previous owner traded it on a stingray and frankly the dealer didn't know what they had. I looked at the Carfax and saw it was one owner, no accidents and more importantly the dealer had it in stock for almost 75 days. They also had it listed online as a Carrera and not a S model - so no one doing a search for an S would find it.
They had already reduced the price over 8k from original asking and I knew they were going to send it to auction soon if not sold, that with the combination of end of the month and year they wouldn't want to carry it on the books.
Long story short, I explained all these reasons they need to discount more as I offered 5k less than their newly reduced price (it was fair but why not try for more). Take it or leave it. I got a call back about 30min later agreeing to 3k less and I was on a flight with a check the next day.
So I let the first owner take the depreciation and picked up a 118k msrp vehicle for 82k and it only had 8400 miles on it. My advice would be take a look at how long they've had it in stock which can be found on a Carfax, look at what others similarly equipped are selling for, find a non Porsche dealer if possible (veh is covered to 50k miles anyway) you can always purchase an esp at a later date and don't be afraid to throw out what you feel is fair. Walk away if you're not comfortable.
