sport chrono add on

Hi guys, I'm thinking about switching over to 991s. I've found a lightly used 991. It has everything I wanted expect there is no sport chrono. My question is can it be installed by the dealer?

Not really.. Part of SC is the dynamic engine mounts which aren't easily changed. Although I believe there are partial retrofit solutions (i.e the dash wart).

But I guess my real question is.. Why is it you feel that you need SC? Other than the dash "clock" you get launch control with PDK (which most people use exactly once) and dynamic engine mounts.

I got talked into adding it as a $2500 build option over the alleged argument that it is necessary for resale. If I had it to over again I would have passed on it as for me it is basically an expensive clock.

It would cost a small fortune to retrofit, far more costly than as a new-car option. Take that money and buy a nice exhaust or set of custom wheels for the 991....more better!

Cars without sport chrono also dont have the sport plus button.
For most people who dont track the car, its probably a waste of money.

Doesn't Sport Chrono/Sport Plus (with PDK) mean the 0-60 time is 4.2 compared to 4.6? To me that is worth the $2500 and currently I am looking to buy a new 911 Carrera with this option.

One thing I will tell you about SC is that it has a zero depreciation rate. You'll get all your money back on it.

Depreciation rate on ceramic brakes? At least 90% and even 100% if doing a dealer trade in.

Thanks for the responses.

What about the sport+ mode, how do you like it? I know on paper it looks very impressive but is it a must have?

If you are purchasing a performance car I would imagine having options like sports + could only be a positive. SC in PDK includes important elements I would look for a car with it. I would not like to spend lots of money on a car knowing that it may not be resealable to a wide audience simply because it lacks one critical option. Some will say ignore resale not important-well I guess that's true if you never want to sell the car in the future. I would say look for a car with it.

SC cannot be installalled afterwards. But SC is useless anyway (unless you are a hardcore track rat), so don't let that steer you away from that car !

I like Sport Chrono but that's me and if a car I was looking at did not have I would keep shopping. You are most likely going to end up with a car that has a little more than you want but that's not the end of the world.

What happens when you've reached your objectives? Raise them.

A great bargain. More than launch control. The dynamic engine mounts are worth the price alone. Some guys could care less about it, and that's fine.

Great video. Choose for yourself..

With sport+ A base c2 PDK is 4.4 vs 4.2. Sec..
A C2s is 4.1 vs 3.9... The faster speeds are achieved via launch control..

The manuals are .2 higher than the respective non sport plus PDK.. And .4 higher than the respective Sport+ PDK..

So SC buys you .2 sec of you have PDK..

As a PDK guy who doesn't track.. I find it useless in auto mode as no one wants to drive on public the street with redline shifts..

But I like sport+ when I drive in manual mode.. Shifts are crisper and throttle response is the best..

I'm more interested in your anti-wife driving option? What was the cost of that?

Now that's a worthy option!

Two options:

a) Low tech and about $75 I put my spare keys in the same lock box as my .357

b) Much more expensive option.. Get rid of the wife..

I've done a) and I've done b) (ummm multiple times).

That said I find option b) works better for me..
