Thinking about getting 991 S/ reliability?
Thinking about getting 991 S/ reliability?
Hey guys,
I drove a 991 the other day and loved it. I found it to be a great mix of the 997 with a more sophisticated chassis. Although I understand wanting a raw car, I felt the car was still insanely raw and fast, yet had an improved live-ability. I could go on... That's for another thread. Here's my question: It was a 2013. I am usually a little reluctant to buy a first year model of any car... I know there were '12's but only for a few months...
For the '13 owners out there, how's the ownership experience. Mechanically. Reliability. Anyone driven 50-60 k mi??
I would make this a daily driver in a fairly long commute, which is something
I've always wanted to use a 911 for. My first is/was a garage queen, mainly. I'd be upgrading from a 997 because of the convenience options like Bluetooth dimming mirrors, nav, and the overall improved ride. I'm looking for general reliability and no first year model surprises. Thanks! Appreciate feedback.

Mine's a base 2012.5 PDK SC, no PSE. One unscheduled issue fixed in one day. One campaign fixed in one day. One non-critical issue (window index operates intermittently) that no-one knows how to fix. Great car. C2S with PSE would add complexity and therefore potential issues. Plenty of power with PDK. If you want manual you may need to try them both to see if the base has enough low end torque.

Mine is a January 2012 build, purchased in March 2012. Apart from the factory "campaigns" and a couple of rattle fixes in the first 6 months or so, it as been in the shop only for oil changes. 25k miles and no issues whatever. Fantastic car.
I have a launch car, 36k miles, daily driven in all seasons, tracked hard.
No issues. (I don't consider recalls -- all minor -- to be issues).
Check out the JD Power reliability reports if you want a better sample group.

I've got a launch car with just over 55k mile. The only issue I've had is two tranny replacements. Otherwise, it's been good.
One replacement was due to a leak discovered during an oil change by the dealer. PCNA said to replace it. The other was due to consistent stalling from a start with any sort of incline. I chose to given them a chance to repair instead of going for a buyback through the lemon law.
I would buy it again if given the option.

From 2005 up I've put about 50K miles on three new Porsches,....and have owned a good mix of other brands of vehicles including Audi, Volvo, Ford, RAM, Mazda, etc....
By far the Porsches have been the most reliable. One or two easy warranty items along the way,....but nothing else. Far and beyond any of the makes above.
