991 Exterior modifications, why do or don't you do it?
Most 911 owners feel the basic shape of the car is a major part of the appeal; its classic, subtle and beautiful. Adding a big or multi level wings in the back really changes the look, definitely less 'mature', more boy racerish. Notable exceptions would be a mild front lip and a rear ducktail - the ducktail pays homage to the 911's past. It is still subtle. See attached pic of my 997.2 as an illustration.
Other than that, clear tails and side markers are usual fare, as they clean up the color palette for some paint colors.
Wheels and stancing (spacers, lowering springs, coilovers) are very personal, comes with significant costs and potential performance trade offs.

I like both. I don't overdue but I do like a little personalization.
I have the Vorsteiner carbon fiber rear spoiler, subtle but nice, on order HRE satin black mesh, Kline Iconel exhaust with carbon fiber tips, and the Porsche sport front lip. I'm also near retirement with a lot of energy.

Many cars are done so well, that doing style mods can detract from them moreso than add, so on cars like the 991, its pretty hard to improve on what the factory has done. I think most will be subtle mods at best, and there are two other issue as play here as well. 1) Many are leased, which means short term ownership and mods are not wanted or welcome on the cars when they are returned 2) You get .10 on the dollar for these when you sell the car, if that.
My Aston Martin Vantage was a car that you really couldn't find anything to improve the looks of, other than perhaps wheels. That car was so perfectly designed in 2005 that every alteration I ever saw one one cheapened it up and took away from its sleekness. All I ever did to mine was fit a set of HRE P40s on it. Change for the sake of Change is not always good.

On my 991S Cab, I've not done much either. Clear front markers, side decal script, HRE P40S wheels, swap out the gold hood PORSCHE logo for a silver one, and removed the '911' from the decklid chrome emblems in favor of 'Carrera S'. I did fit a TUBI exhaust and then some minor things in side the car. The day it came home:

And today (hood emblem is still gold in this photo):

Mods i would do if they were not so darned costly....Switch to the black headlamps, the SPORT mirrors, and red seatbelts inside. That's about it.

Oooo, I love the black/silver crest on trunk. Is that a Porsche part available through the dealer? Would look great on my Agate Gray!
He has done a lot of trunk crests for people.
Here is a link to some examples of his work:

Shoot me a PM if you want his email, or you can contact hi through Rennlist.

I'm actually the same way - I order my cars "exactly" how I want, every small detail, all stock. I pay (all cash) arm and leg when I get my cars but keep it stock throughout i have it with me.
IMO 991 doesn't need ext mods - it's perfect in every way...I don't like the rear spoilers either, but it's just me.

It is being made now. Ordered it right before the New Year. Expecting it in Feb. Already have an Indy shop lined up to install. I will post a vid once it's on. Really liked dealing with Felix and from the vids I really am looking forward to getting it installed.
I like mods that increase functionality such as radar/lidar.. cameras etc..
I'm not doing any tracking/racing so I haven't really make any suspension or engine mods. I'd consider doing them.. but honestly for street use I don't find there is much I need for a 991S.. (And not willing to enter another endless debate if a 400HP 4.1 Sec 0-60 (actually 3.9 in real life) is underpowered or doesn't have enough torque.. those debates are just inane.. )
But any cosmetic mod I like to be reversible and I keep the original parts. (For example rear engine grille) or clear markers.
I considered removing the "PORSCHE" badging on the rear. (leaving the 991S and Carrera) But at the last minute decided to leave it..
In general I like understatement, and IMHO a 991 can start looking pretty juvenile very quickly... Of course it is all a matter of taste and subjective. This is the reason for the Mods I don't make..

The only exterior mods I have done on my TTS would be switching to clear brake lights with clear side markers, and I have four round exhaust tips from the new GMG Exhaust, blacked out Porsche crests on the CL wheel caps, and a black/silver crest on the trunk.
A lot of Porsche owners lower their car's ride height with H&R springs, which could qualify as a exterior mod as it changes the way it sits, but I cannot imagine doing that, as in the real world (my real world at least) there are speed bumps galore to go over that a lowered car would scrape on all the time.
I have done some interior changes, mainly carbon fiber wrapped parts switched out with the cheap plastic ones, and I also added the aluminum Porsche pedal set.

Did you do the mesh o your own, or did you buy a kit" I have the X51 as well and can't source the center mesh.

But I guess that's why I would love to one day own a 1986 turbo with a whale tail. So over the top and 80's but beautiful now as a rolling time capsule.
When I see a late model GT3-RS especially with a wild paint job I would just feel a bit juvenile for a DD. Something more subtle is more my personal tastes.
I think I would agree.. I'd be much more open to a classic Porsche that was more aggressive looking. For some reason in my head I put that kind of car in a different category... When I see a late model GT3-RS especially with a wild paint job I would just feel a bit juvenile for a DD. Something more subtle is more my personal tastes.
So all of you present-day yuppies, dentists, hedge fund brokers with GT3-RS's, please take care of your cars for the next generation.
