991 Exterior modifications, why do or don't you do it?

I split my time between Portland, OR area and Orange County, CA. Particularly in southern California, I probably encounter more 911s than in other areas.

Generally speaking, most 991s I see are entirely stock with a few outliers having aftermarket wheels. However, it's highly unlikely to for me to find a 991 with any kind of "body kit" (tech art etc), lip spoilers (Vorsteiner) or other exterior mods. I don't mean OEM options like the Sport Design kit, but specifically post-purchase non-power-adding, body modifications.

So, my question, what compels you to modify your 991 and what have you done, if anything? And for those of you who choose not to, why don't you?

To be clear, there is no right or wrong answer. There's nothing wrong with leaving a car stock or modifying--it's your car, your money, your choice. I'm curious about the new/current 991 owner community. Thanks!

I choose not to. I like to keep my car as subtle as is possible for a Porsche 911. That means keeping things stock (no aero kits, etc) and even my license plate frame is a basic black frame. I like the minimalist approach.

The only exterior modifications I made to my 2014 Carrera 991 was to install chrome dual exhaust tips to replace the original ovals. I plan to leave everything else stock.

I won't do any significant external mods (except the clear LED side lights). For me it's a matter of personal taste. Beauty, as they say, is in the eye of the beholder and as a near-retirement "high-given white guy" (apologies to old Saturday Live inSeattle skits) I don't particularly care for what I consider more extreme exterior styling. Of course I wouldn't turn down certain HRE or Fikse wheels but that's about it.

Bottom line is that I think Porsche has done excellent design work that I can't improve!

I am debating the front sport spoiler lip on my 991. Only "mods" I have done so far are 40% tinted windows, led side clear markers, and PSE. The front lip will add an aggressive look and i've heard may assist with added aerodynamics (albeit will be slight if any).

Once the stock P Zero tires are worn, I plan on installing Michelin Super Sports and getting the car corner balanced.

I went with the ducktail option from the factory. I later added the European (clear) side-markers and an AWE Dual-Path exhaust system. To me, the car is now perfect.

TechArt front and rear. Don't like the factory tail.

To me the 991 is a gorgeous design. Most things you do to it do not make it better ...

The only exterior mods I have done on my TTS would be switching to clear brake lights with clear side markers, and I have four round exhaust tips from the new GMG Exhaust, blacked out Porsche crests on the CL wheel caps, and a black/silver crest on the trunk.

A lot of Porsche owners lower their car's ride height with H&R springs, which could qualify as a exterior mod as it changes the way it sits, but I cannot imagine doing that, as in the real world (my real world at least) there are speed bumps galore to go over that a lowered car would scrape on all the time.

I have done some interior changes, mainly carbon fiber wrapped parts switched out with the cheap plastic ones, and I also added the aluminum Porsche pedal set.

I am never satisfied with out-of-the-box styling (not talking about the 911 design -- but the styling!) and can't sleep unless I've made my cars different than all the others out there.

So, here's what I've done so far:
Vinyl Roof Wrap in Matt Black
Matte black rear badging
Matte black side mirrors (entire housing- not just the "lower trim")
Matte black mesh front grills
Adaptec 7mm front and 15mm rear spacers
Clear side LED
Some other stuff coming-up soon, including:
H&R Lowering
Matte black wheels
Re-Wrap roof (not sure what shade of black, but black 4 sure)
And I might just wrap the entire car in a color that is unique but not garrish!

I think I already answered the "why" question above..... so here's some pics...

Polished up an old engine badge for the hood, clear LED markers, mesh for the 3 radiators, black aluminum mesh to cover the front inner fender wells, and 7mm spacers out back. That's it for now. T

I like both. I don't overdue but I do like a little personalization.

I have the Vorsteiner carbon fiber rear spoiler, subtle but nice, on order HRE satin black mesh, Kline Iconel exhaust with carbon fiber tips, and the Porsche sport front lip. I'm also near retirement with a lot of energy.

I painted my rear valence and front spoiler. I also installed air deflectors but that was for function, not form.

I painted my front spoiler lip and installed clear LED side markers and removed the "Porsche" from the rear bumper cap, also painted my exhaust tips. I do want to add the Tech Art front valance but that's down the road.

I am addicted to personalizing my ride. On my white 991 C2S I have windows tinted, colour matched front spasm lip, clear euro markers, aggressive wide stance rims, H&R lowering springs, Sharkwerks race exhaust, and a Caractere rear wing....next mod looking for the right side skirts....
