I drove both the PDK and the manual before opting for the PDK.
It is my DD - I felt the manual may be more inconvenient in daily stop and go traffic.
Although the manual is great fun, it would get old quickly for me.

Also, it helps that the PDK is fantastic and the gear shifts are instantaneous. You can hear the "pop" "pop" in the exhaust when you change gears quickly during spirited driving. I almost exclusively use my paddles.

I have the MT and even after all the comments about it I love it. I had a PDK prior and I just prefer a manual car of this type. Not because it's better but because it's better for me. You can't go wrong either way.

I just sold my 2010 997.2 for the most part due to manual transmission. As a daily driver the stick shift was just a pain in the a**. In addition, the synchro rings must have been a bit worn so that sometimes I couldnt shift into 1st gear. Very annoying when the light turns to green and you are taking your sweet time getting it into gear!

So my recommendation is: PDK all the way!

Regards,

CF

Anyway, in my opinion, experience here should not be intimidating...leave that to the dealerships.
Those that have expressed some mild irritation here are the same people who would have (and have) provided a lot of useful info and perspectives in other postings.

I don't think the issue is being intimidating to a newbie. Newbies should be (and are) always welcome...we were all newbies at one time. The issue is clutter and retreading well-worn topics on a targeted forum board. I guess we express some irritation because we value this board...

This is the internet. You SEARCH to find info on the internet. Basic common sense. The OP knew enough to find this board and the 991 section... he has been here since 2011 and has 116 posts...

So the point is what? Beat him up? Clutter, you just have to bypass the thread and not read it. I agree that there are a ton of re-posts here and some or most because people are too lazy to search, don't know the forum well or just want current feedback.

I am on several forums and try to search before posting but sometimes I want fresh feedback too for a question or issue. It's the attitude towards posters on this forum some times that's uncalled for. All of us started new and most of us have asked what might be thought of as silly questions. I'm just asking us to lighten up and try to keep this forum a positive place for information.

Who's beating who up? Read golfnutintib's post. Some of it even echoes your own thoughts.

It's a common sense thing and good board etiquette. Who wants to filter through a ton of beat to death subjects as new posts? Add onto an existing one if need be. There's enough of them. It's not being a newbie (which the OP isn't). It's being courteous and doing your homework.

Personally I've been on Rennlist 90% of the time now and have seen the quality and quantity of postings going downhill here over the last 6 months which is unfortunate.

How many aftermarket exhaust posts can one possibly take? Even the wheel ones are getting old. That's coming from a guy who loves aftermarket wheels!

Personally I've always loved manuals, so that's what I choose in my sports cars. More and more of my friends are going with PDK, and people talk about being stuck in traffic and how much of a pain a stick is. Me, on the other hand, I find that working the stick and pedals is about the only thing that keeps me interested while stuck in traffic, but then that's just me. I love the mechanical feel of self-shifting and clutching, throttle-blipping, etc. Hope I never have to give it up.

Cheers

Ross

Hilarious. Yeah, it sure looks like you are lightening up and providing a positive place for information. Sure seems like you are beating up on golf, who made many valid points.

I hope I didn't hurt your feelings. See what I mean about unnecessary responses. I was not beating up on Golf at all. Merely stating my opinion on how some on this forum respond to posters.

I like this forum and that's why I mentioned it at all.

Your point is valid about the "quality". I think one of the reasons for this is the lack of owner's ability to do much with the 991. Most of us don't possess the knowledge, tools, time or inclination to work on our cars mechanically. For example, changing brake pads, I can but don't do it myself. I would rather pay someone $200 to do the four and stay off my knees.

In comparison to aviation boards that I participate in, I find that there are so many different relevant topics that are discussed. Aviation, aircraft and piloting are far more complex that tooling around town in the 991. Naturally there are more quality issues to discuss. With 991 cars, there isn't a hell of a lot to talk about unless you have a problem (and there are not many) or need find out how to option the car. Older P-car's contain far more maintenance topics because they are simpler cars that folks can work on.

Just an observation.

So sorry for the people being rude to you on here.

So, to answer your question...I think it all has to do with the type of driving you do daily, if you want engagement with the vehicle, how connected you want to be and if you are a lazy person...

Myself, I hate any vehicle that is not a stick. But, I do not drive in stop and go traffic much, never commute during heavy traffic periods and I find that if I drive a car with anything but a stick, I get bored with the vehicle very quickly and want to sell it after 6 months.

Hope this gives you a few ideas of what to think about when making your decision.

Good luck!

My personal modo is PDK for T/T (track and traffic) everything else MT. That comes from 3 years of ownership of my C2S 7MT and track and traffic experience in a PDK.

The decision depends on your personal preference and the type of driving you will be doing.
