Sorry... Manual vs. PDK

Opinions.

I am tempted to purchase a C4S that is a manual as a daily beater. Should I keep looking for a PDK? Please don't say personal preference. Any actual experiences out there?

This a is joke, right? Do a search and you will find a million differing opinions. This has been discussed way too much already, and is both tiresome and silly.

Sorry to waste everyone's time and for being so stupid to even think to post something this dumb. Please forget that you even saw this thread and i apologize for my birth. I will do a search. However, I am disappointed at the responses. No one is forcing you to read or answer if you don't like the thread then move on. I was simply trying to get someone who may have some specific information on a mechanical issue or other info that would help me decide. I have driven both and I really can't make up my mind.

This.

The topic has been debated to death on every Porsche forum out there. Do some research, drive both options, and draw your own conclusion.

Guys, guys, don't be haters. If you're annoyed by a post, just ignore it. No need to be disrespectful.

I bought a MT C4S in 2013. Then I drove a PDK loaner for a day and I thought for a moment of trading my MT for PDK. Then when I got my own car back the next day, I was thrilled I had the MT again. My point is that sometimes it's hard to know what your "personal preference" really is.

So my recommendation is not so much one type of transmission over another. My recommendation is that you lease rather than buy. Then at the end of the lease you can decide if you want to swap out for a different transmission, or buy at the end of the lease.

No mechanical problems on either.

I have a PDK and am very happy with it. Just as happy as the next guy who will tell you having a manual makes you feel more connected to the car and driving experience regardless of the PDK being faster.

Don't take offense, sometimes you need to do a little homework as stated. Before I start a post in a topic, I do a search first for an answer, or add to an existing post of the same topic rather than just being lazy and expect something to land on my lap.

Before buying my 991, I didn't all reading on here for months and months before even posting anything. I chose to try and educate myself first on these cars before trying to attempt to make worthy contributions. I figured if I educated myself enough I could make rational decisions on my own for what options best suit me.

There is some really good stuff buried in these posts.

Good luck.

I am a bit bias as I went with the 7mt. I fortunately do not have to sit in lots of traffic. If you drives involve lots of traffic I would suggest PDK. On the open road I prefer the 7MT. Each person is different-try to get some seat time behind each. I would ask the dealer for some extended test drives if possible.

Just don't let it happen again.

Look how many posts there are on the subject if you just type PDK vs Manual into the search engine.

I personally like forum boards that don't tolerate lazy people who don't search out well covered info.

I don't understand the beating people get from posting here sometimes. If an OP posts a topic that has been ridden to death many times and doesn't get any responses then a search might be their next move. Is the thought here if he is berated brutally for posting a common or heavily discussed topic he will learn to love and respect this forum.

I don't understand why everyone here is compelled to read every thread and punish those that post what they think is useless. This is one of the tactics on this forum I find distasteful. Don't like the thread, don't read it or reply. Get over yourselves.

@OP, I have the PDK in my P4S and MT in my 991 C4. Personally, I like this combination. I enjoy the experience of having the control an MT allows over the C4 and keeping up the revs. The PDK is smooth and quick. I have used it with the paddles and allowed it to shift for itself; the launch control feature is something to be experienced that really cannot be duplicated with the MT. So, as much as I hate to say it, it really comes down to driving preference...I'm 61, and learned to drive on a stick; so, an MT is just a part of my DNA.

My $0.02...

I agree and thank you. Compared to others here, I am relatively new to Porsche cars and I remember consulting this forum many times when I was shopping for my cars. There was much good information offered and the folks were helpful. I really appreciated not being put down because I didn't know a lot about these cars. I'm still learning! Anyway, in my opinion, experience here should not be intimidating...leave that to the dealerships.

I drive the PDK, not much negative to say about it. I too grew up with driving a MT. First car was a 1972 TR6.

I am really keen on the new Cayman GT-4 (MT only). I suspect it will be superior to the 991 in every way on the track. Even though my 991 is not my DD, I find that I really don't want to drive a MT any longer, so the Cayman is a non starter. So, without really thinking much about it, PDK is my preference. In my opinion, the PDK is far superior in every area. It shifts in milliseconds, 0-60 it's faster, has launch control, allows for both auto & manual, with SC it has track mode Sport +, less work!
