Advice on Patience.....
Advice on Patience.....
I just sold my old Corvette and have been looking for the right 2013 or 2014 Carerra S....I know this sounds stupid but I scroll through Auto Trader and the Porsche Certified website trying to find the right car with the options I want. You think it would be easy but so far nothing exactly right. I am very impatient, so I am trying to use some logic and ask some of you how long it took you to find the exact right car. Also, how to stay patient and not rush to buy a car that is not exactly what you want. Sounds like an immature question but I need some sound advice. Thanks so much in advance!!! I do not have the money to burn on a car that is not exactly what I want!....I am 50 and still as inpatient as if I were 20. Can't understand it.Again, Thanks for any advice or mistakes I might avoid.
I looked solidly for about 3+ months. Did the same thing as you: every waking hour I was scouring all sites/classified's I could find! It was like I had to buy something that instant!
I finally just settled down. I kept looking but wasn't as crazy about it as I was earlier on in my hunt. Finally just found one! It had all the options I wanted and I pulled the trigger.
Hang in there...the car for 'you' is out there.
Keep us posted!

Definitely take your time, the worst thing that can happen is you get impatient, buy anything then the car you actually want shows up a couple of days after you've purchased something.
I was lucky with my 991, bought it off inventory and had everything except for satellite radio (which I do miss, but have on my phone). Since that time, I've looked online for the same kind of car and it doesn't seem to be out there.
Tangentially, I looked for another car for nearly four years before finding the exact one that met my checklist of requirements.
Good luck!

I also took almost three months. I chose several colors I would accept (4 in my case) and listed the "must have" options and several "nice to have options" but it still took the three months. The car I purchased has several of the "nice to have" options but certainly not all of what I wanted. Bottom line for me is I'm happy with my choice and the wait was worth getting the car I wanted.

I looked for a year! Wanted GT Silver which made the search worse! Found the beauty August 2014
Found 95% of the options I was looking for, the rest I added.
2012.5 991S CPO 2,600 miles 30K off sticker.
At certain points I was about to give up.
I love looking at cars though. I still browse the classifieds! Just not as stressful seeing I have a car! : )

That being said so many times I was like why don't I just order a new car and avoid all this craziness and wild goose chases! I'm glad it all worked out in the end.
I tend to be cheap. I want nice things, but always find the best deal most of the time.

I was driving myself and my wife crazy. Had a 13 Boxster S, wanted more power. Couldn't find the right 911s cab color and options (wife had color veto power). Decided to do a Boxster GTS Euro delivery. Cancelled. Almost bought a second Porsche. Cancelled. Almost went back MB with an SL550. Stopped. Almost bought a used C7 as a third car. Stopped. Tired yet? I was obsessed. Then out of the blue the dealer who sold us the BS called and they took in trade the perfect car. Well, except for Sport Exhaust but that can be added on - which I've now done because we bought that car. In the process we saved significant $$ because it was a 2012.5 launch car. But with only 25k miles and a CPO warranty we were covered and someone else ate $35k+ in depreciation.
My advice - find a dealer or two you like and or trust, give them your wish list, then sit back and obsess on forums, autotrader, etc and let them do the work. Might not work for everybody but it did work for us (even though the dealer is in Rancho Mirage CA and we live in the Seattle area!).

To the OP, yes, you just need to be patient. It's tough. You'll get better pickings in the spring, generally speaking.
Also, check out eBay. Lots of folks now bypass Autotrader for eBay. The last few cars that I sold, I had listed on numerous sites, but eBay is what got them noticed and sold.
The best time to negotiate and find a deal is this time of year.
I see so many low mileage cars out there at significant discounts.
I'd rather have a used S Model with great options, than a new base stripper model for the same price.
For me saving 30K off sticker for a car not even past break in mileage was a jackpot!
You should be able to find a car within 3-4 months.
What exactly are your must haves? Price range?

It just helps keep the boards easier to read.
There's no problem adding to your other one about the cigar car you were looking at.

Why don't list your desired options in this post or post a WTB in the classifieds section.
I'm sure someone will stumble across your car and forward the details.
