Power Seats vs Adaptive Sports Seats
14 way Power vs 18 way Adaptive Seats
I have owned a 997 for 3 years and now a 991 for about 2 with the 18 way adaptive seats. I don't track the car but have a rotten spine and had three surgeries. People are always amazed that I can even drive a Carrera. The 18 way seats made the difference for me. They are the most comfortable seats I ever have had and also based on comparison to multi week use of 14 way seat loaners. That being said, I am 5' 8' and 200 lbs. If you are built differently, it may make a difference.
These seats are not just for use on the track. I use my car as a daily driver and they make a world of difference for me. And yes you can get them with ventilation as another poster indicated.
Bottom line is try them out before making a decision. For me seats are a fundamental product feature and 18 way is the way to go.

My last two Porsches have had Sports seats with the shoulder wings, as on the 18way and 4 way, but not the 14 way.
I just ordered a GTS and specifically did not get the alcantera interior because the only way to get it is with 18-way and 4-way seats with those winglets.
I am not big (6', 185) but the darn wings cause my shoulders to be pushed or rolled forward uncomfortably. I thought I would like them because they look so darn cool, so I bought a Boxster S with Sport seats. They felt fine in the test drives, but after living with them briefly I didn't care for them for that reason. When I bought my last Turbo, I went used, and the car that met all my other criteria had Sport Seats again, so I (reluctantly) went with them.
Now I'm over that. I won't have them again -- life's too short. So I went 14-way.
As mentioned by others, some find just the opposite to be true.
Again, I'm not talking about side bolsters being a problem -- those are fine, and are adjustable in and out on the 18-way. But the shoulder wings are fixed, so if they are uncomfortable, you're stuck.
I'd recommend taking some time to sit in one for a LONG time at your dealer -- like 20 minutes. Think consciously about that question: Are these rolling my shoulders forward? If the answer remains no, then the 18s are a great seat. If it bothers you a little when you think about it in the showroom, it will get pretty uncomfortable on a 3-hour drive.
And of course, do the same with the 14s -- they may feel like torture to you when they feel great to me. I'm just saying it can take some time in the seat to begin to realize how it really feels to you.
Best of luck!
