Power Seats vs Adaptive Sports Seats

Does anyone have an idea of the ratio of 911's (no matter what model) of the amount of cars that come with the Power Sports seats vs the Adaptive Sports seats. With the Adaptive ,I am speaking of the seat with the higher shoulder bolster and comes in 18 power as compared to the plain one with 14 power. I found a car with the plain seats but wanted the Adaptive and not sure if I should hold out or it is not that big of a difference. I do not track the car...Thanks for the help!
Interesting but many Turbo and Turbos'S come with the plain power seats which I find funny ....but maybe they are more comfortable.

I have no idea. I can say this, I have never even seen them on any model that has been in showrooms I have visited. They do not appear to be a popular as an option, but I could be wrong.

Adaptive sport seats are fairly common, but I think the 14-way variety are the most common.

First you have to sit in them and see what you like. Some people simply don't fit in the Adaptive (and non-Adaptive) sport seats. The higher bolsters all the way around along with the high shoulder bolsters can make larger folk squeezed a bit.

Next you have to think about what you will actually need and use. All the power adjustments are neat, but will you consistently use them? Will there be anyone else driving the car?,....If so the 14-way Sports or 18-way Adaptives with the memory settings will be of great value. You also have to remember that the more gizmos the seats have, the heavier and more complex they will be. The 18-way Adaptives are pretty heavy seats compared to the others,....if that means anything.

My favorite is the 4-way Sport Seat Plus,....pretty much the same design as the Adaptive, but without all the far-out power adjustments, they are very comfortable and "set and forget" for me as no one else drives the car. They are also the lightest of the seats if I'm not mistaken.

Your choice,....but you really have to sit in them to see what you like and need.

I tried the 14 way and 18 way adaptive back and forth for quite some time before ordering. I am fairly small framed but the 14 way just hit my back and shoulders uncomfortably, and I went with the 18 way adaptive which I like. I agree, you need to try them to see how they fit you.

Ventilation is an option on all currently available seats in the US, but is not standard on any of them that I know of.

The only criticism I've heard in the 18 ways is difficulty getting over the higher bolsters when in/out of the car. I know more of a concern with the higher vehicles like the Cayenne. Haven't really heard that about the 911.

One other thing was wear on the seat bolsters on the sides where getting in/out. Certain lighter leather colors have had the color worn off.

I have the 14 ways and find them very adequate. They bolsters stick out far enough to keep me in place and tight in the seat. 5'8" 160lbs.

Would I pass on a car either way 14 or 18 way for the right deal? Me personally, no.

Things like Sport Chrono, SPASM, PSE, color, etc. were further up the list.

My last two Porsches have had Sports seats with the shoulder wings, as on the 18way and 4 way, but not the 14 way.

I just ordered a GTS and specifically did not get the alcantera interior because the only way to get it is with 18-way and 4-way seats with those winglets.

I am not big (6', 185) but the darn wings cause my shoulders to be pushed or rolled forward uncomfortably. I thought I would like them because they look so darn cool, so I bought a Boxster S with Sport seats. They felt fine in the test drives, but after living with them briefly I didn't care for them for that reason. When I bought my last Turbo, I went used, and the car that met all my other criteria had Sport Seats again, so I (reluctantly) went with them.

Now I'm over that. I won't have them again -- life's too short. So I went 14-way.

As mentioned by others, some find just the opposite to be true.

Again, I'm not talking about side bolsters being a problem -- those are fine, and are adjustable in and out on the 18-way. But the shoulder wings are fixed, so if they are uncomfortable, you're stuck.

I'd recommend taking some time to sit in one for a LONG time at your dealer -- like 20 minutes. Think consciously about that question: Are these rolling my shoulders forward? If the answer remains no, then the 18s are a great seat. If it bothers you a little when you think about it in the showroom, it will get pretty uncomfortable on a 3-hour drive.

And of course, do the same with the 14s -- they may feel like torture to you when they feel great to me. I'm just saying it can take some time in the seat to begin to realize how it really feels to you.

Best of luck!

I bought my car from stock and it has the 14 way. They have a quirk which is the outside bolster is smaller than the inside for easier entry and exit but it can be annoying when driving. I like the 18 way more but you need to open the door wide and sit first so you don't wear the bolsters.

jerryk991, is there that big of a difference. I found a car with the 14's that is perfect but does not have the 18's. Is it a huge mistake...it is the only option this used car is missing. I do not track the car, just a weekend cruiser. At first, the adaptive was one of my most important options but I really don't know if I will find the perfect used car with the exact options I want. This has everything but the right seats......... this has 14 power.

Try and see if you notice the difference

The sales people at a local dealership never noticed the difference in side bolsters until I pointed it out. Drive a car with the 14s and see what you think and if it is noticeable to you.

You need seat time in both in order to make an informed decision. I personally had the 14 way seats in my '13 C2S, now have 18 way seats in my '15 TT. Personally, I prefer the 18 ways. I've got a fairly narrow build and I like the extra bolstering. I find the seats to be supremely comfortable.
