Recent Campaigns....

Hi All- Just had my C4S over to the dealer for state inspection and to reset my oil service indicator (changed my own), and while there had a couple of Campaigns pop-up. WF27 and WF72. For what it's worth, thought I'd provide some details.

WF27 is a simple software update for PCM with XM radio. Noted that afterwards I didn't see or hear any difference, so far unknown what was changed. No obvious changes to my settings or channels, etc. Took technician .14 units.

WF72 - "Replacing the cover for the engine compartment, Right." Took technican .13 units

I haven't had a chance to pull the cover off and see what is different, but here are the part numbers from the work order. They replaced the cover and two stickers....
7PP-010-786-T Sticker
996-006-140-00 Decal - Knock
000-043-302-68 Cover Engine C
A quick glance under the hood I did notice that the replaced cover appears to have some type of foam gasket around the outside edge, vs. what I recall about the previous cover (no gasket). Also felt like it was secured in place more solidly than the previous cover. I'll have to pop it off when I get home tonight and see what the difference was....

Hi- There are several DIY Oil Change threads on the board, so definitely do a search. In the meantime, I'll share the following....

You will need to raise the rear of the car - I used my rhino ramps, backed the car up on them, and for me they are the perfect height under the car. I let the car warm-up a bit, but not too hot.

You will need a 36mm oil filter socket, and a 10-12" extension to change the filter.

To remove the drain plug you will need an 8mm.

Of course, you need a suitable container to catch the oil in -- make sure it can hold at least 9-10 quarts, I use a 15qt pan. Just a note - make sure the drain pan has a wide opening for the oil... I've seen a couple of pans that have a small hole and when the oil starts draining it overwhelms the hole and oil will overflow the sides of the pan!

I picked-up the OEM oil filter, crush washer and filter gasket from my local P-car dealer (I think I found the prices to be very competitive with Suncoast, as the dealer parts counter gives me 15% off....).

As for oil, I use factory recommended Mobil 1 0w-40 -- I buy in 5qt containers from Walmart for an awesome price. Never found another source as cheap, even online. I order on Walmart site, then pick up in the store.

I let the oil drain until I don't see anything but an occassional drip. I haven't found any need to drain overnight. If you have the oil at a reasonable temp it flows very freely from the drain hole. I think it's taken like 20-30 minutes each of the two times I've changed the oil on this car.

Regarding how much -- depends on your own experience, and how much oil your car has already consumed. What I found is that I am putting a tad more than 8qt. Don't overfill.

Since we don't have a dipstick, you won't know for sure if you need additional oil or not until you run the car, let it warm up and then check the oil reading. Add more oil if you need.

Oh, and make sure to torque the drain plug and filter cap to the proper ft/lbs. I don't recall them exactly, but I know they are on this board if you search for them.

Hope that helps! It really is simple to do, and saves you some $$$.

Dealer didn't charge me for the reset. $0. I've heard of other dealers charging for resets, but with my particular dealer have never been charged. If a dealer is charging you, then I would recommend to others to only ask for a reset when in for other reasons (in my case a state emissions / inspection). I would never ask the service guys to do something for "free" that takes them away from other jobs, even if in this case it is a quick reset.

Interesting about the XM radio update. I have had problems with coverage. My VW radio seems to never lose the XM signal, while the Porsche cuts out a lot. I wonder if that improves it. Geez I hope so.

It sure would be helpful if there was an easy way to check online for open campaigns. Enter your VIN and see if you're up to date.

That link appears to be for recalls. If so, service campaigns probably won't show up.

Contacted my dealer and found out the the WF-27 applies to my 991 but not the WF-72. Have not had any issues with my XM radio but I will schedule an appointment for the software update.
