It's Difficult Choosing an Exhaust
"drone" is subjective. When deleting the center muffler drcollie is correct about removing the chambers in side the muffler. With that being said a center muffler is the "weaker" of the three mufflers the two side mufflers are MUCH heavier with MUCH more packing. I heard the car in person that we just had here, sounded great. While maintaining the side mufflers (Fabspeed's or factory) it keeps drone at bay. With a more free flowing system drone might become a factor at RPM under 3500.
drcollie / Jersey Shore;
What exhaust do you think is quieter between Kline & Tubi?
I just want something with a better tone than PSE, but not any louder, if that is possible.
Even if it's quiet, with valves closed, I don't want it obnoxious, with valves open.
You may be the only guys who can answer this.

I have never had a Tubi. I wanted something less muscle car sounding and wanted a quality piece. The Kline is a masterpiece of workmanship and was really impressive. Sound again is subjective but I prefer the Euro F1. I'll try to post a link to a cold start video with valves closed and open. I'm not very good at this though.
I ended up retrofitting my C4S with a PSE exhaust and i'm really happy with the sound (i also had a PSE on my last 991)
All I ended up buying was a used center muffler off a car that had the Sport Exhaust option, and some longer vacuum lines,,,,,,,,,and since the S already had a vacuum system I get the PSE sound when i hit my 'Sport' button!!
Ended up costing me less than x-pipe (getting the center muffler used of course)
New was about $850US (or $1300CDN up here)

I have a bunch of aftermarket exhaust and air intake junk in my basement. If you just want noise (and cel on your dash) fill your boots with this stuff. If you want to make your car faster or more fun there are better ways. Pm me if you want some junk
Hope you don't mind me jumping in. I had the pleasure of meeting Jersey Shire at a local cars and coffee event- very nice guy and beautiful car. I had the dealer add PSE to my car after I bought it and was intrigued when I saw Jersey's car as I was unfamiliar with that system. Later on I heard him drive away and I can say emphatically it's one of the best exhausts I've ever heard on a 991 - the black pipes are pretty cool too.
We are in Phoenix as well. You should come check out the Porsche stuff we are working on one day and we can give you a little tour of our shop. We can custom build you an exhaust to your specs or decibal requirement to **** off your neighbors haha. Straight exhaust sounds great too. Otherwise, I suggest GT Haus/Meisterschaft for an awesome out of the box exhaust that not only looks great, but sounds awesome.
My car came with PSE. I like the fact that it has a button to turn the exhaust from tame to insane. I prefer not to **** my neighbors off.
But the PSE was not enough for me, so I had the AWE Switchpath installed. I love it because I can still use the button to keep it calm when driving thru my neighborhood, past a cop or with my wife in the car. And then push the button to unleash a true super car sound.
The pops and burbles on throttle lift have made people walking on the sidewalk jump.

Hey Silversled thanks for the really nice call out. That is a great cars and coffee group with awesome cars and great people just wanting to talk cars.
As far as the difference between PSE I would say with valves closed very little difference until you hit 3800rpm. It wakes up at that point and the sound is fantastic. With valves open it is just a beast and at throttle it has a more F1 sound that is really amazing. The build quality is very impressive and it is a complete system not just X pipes. The team at Kline is terrific to work with. I would recommend highly.
I also disconnected the sound symposer and blocked the outlets so I could enjoy the real exhaust sound. Good luck with your choice.

It really is difficult choosing an exhaust! I spent months listening to clips, talking to manufacturers, doing research, etc. I was happy with PSE, but I wanted a more "raw" system that would really make the car scream. The most important thing I learned is that, with the PSE valves, volume is a non-issue for me since I can have the system in "quiet" mode whenever I want.
My video doesn't capture just how loud this system is. Also, I love how the "tone" of the car is relatively unchanged; it doesn't sound like a muscle car, nor a rice rocket. This X-pipe just increased PSE's volume from a 7 to a 12.

Just one more thing to be aware of - if you go with any of the center-can delete exhausts (which cost less) you are going to get some very noticeable drone and boom at highway cruising speeds where you are doing steady-state 65 / 75 / 85 mph. That center can is critical to prevent that. The engineering of an exhaust system requires a volume chamber (i.e., muffler) to prevent that from occuring, and there is no way around it. The side cans on the 991's are not enough dampening to prevent this. That may not matter to you if you don't take trips in your 991 or enjoy the steady and constant sound similar to being in a small prop-driven airplane, but that is the major difference between the full cat back exhausts and the X-pipe center eliminators. It requires considerable design work to fabricate a good exhaust that gives both a nice tone and yet doesn't boom/drone. That's why you see the big price differentials.
Years ago I had a B&B exhaust on my BMW M3 that sounded fantastic. When I took the car on trips I had to wear earplugs on any trip over 2 hours. Eventually that got old and I removed it to install a better baffled exhaust from Active Autowerks on the car and while it didn't rumble as much or make the cool run-up and run-down noises of the B&B, it was a MUCH better pipe to live with day to day.

I could not disagree with this statement any more strongly. I just installed a Shark Werks X-Pipe on my 2013 3.4 man trans car and there is absolutely no drone at any speed. I know it's subjective but I can't hear any at any speed/RPM. Is it possible that you have a PDK car and that is the difference?
Also, as I mentioned before, my S2000 was so incredibly loud that I once drove from Phoenix to Tucson to play golf and my ears were still ringing when I made the turn to the back nine. I wish I could say that I am exaggerating, but it's the honest truth.
Having that drone again wouldn't be my first choice, but I also didn't really hate it.
The sound of that Kline is amazing on YouTube, and I spent the better part of an hour yesterday listening to different recordings of it. I love it.
