In the end... What's going to be the 911 GTS classic, the 997.2 GTS or the 991.1 GTS?

Obviously excluding the track-oriented GT3 variants, The 997.2 GTS and the outgoing 991.1 GTS are the last of the modern gen manual NA 911's.
Just a fun topic of discussion. Which one is going to be the keeper down the road? Which one is more desirable, the better driver? Is newer better in this case, or the smaller body more raw 997.2 equivalent or better in it's own way? Anyone own both?

Down the road? All the gasoline engine cars are going to be classics.
They will of course be limited use and expensive to operate given the conversions needed to deal with limited availability biofuels.

That might be a good answer. I owned a 997.2 GTS with manual transmission for 3.5 years. I thought I would never get rid of that car, but I finally did for my 991 GTS with PDK. Both cars have their strengths. The 997.2 GTS is more raw as most people say, but I think the 991 GTS is the better overall car. The increased wheelbase, which I didn't think I would be a fan of when the 991 was introduced, greatly improves the stability and handling of the car compared to the 997 GTS. I think the 991 GTS is faster also, not only in acceleration, but on road courses where the improved handling stands out.
You can't go wrong with either and there will never be a definitive answer because too much subjectivity goes into the determination. If you base the evaluation solely on objective data, then the 991 GTS will win.

Totally agree. And to answer the OP's question, none will be classics IMO. They are too plentiful and well-built to imagine them appreciating anytime in the forseeable future, especially when you add the 997.2 and 991 Carrera S's, which is essentially the same car and will anchor the prices on the GTS's.

In the case of Ferrari - I think some just cannot afford the maintenance and too many people look at them as "investments" and don't want to lose money. Big difference in a driver's car.

Expecting a daughter in February and I hope to keep the cars for her to appreciate while everyone will have electro hybrid turbo'd cars.
I want her to know what NA means, what a clutch pedal is and hope to have father/daughter time at the track!
Anyway I believe that 991.1's with MT are the perfect blend of technology, interaction and performance - today and in the future looking back.
Who knows what people will call a classic in twenty years, surely the shapes of 930s, 964s but for drivability I like the 991s.

Sorry, i dont think the 4s was not an option...
I think the 991.1 GTS is going to be hard to beat.
There is no other variant with the aural delight of the NA GTS...
not to mention the 991.1 GTS is the Last of the NA engines, and is no longer made.
