New 911 owner

Hello All,
Just purchased my first Porsche 911 and I'm super excited. Any advise on how to maintain/take care of my vehicle would be greatly appreciated!! Specifically, I'm interested in my Sports Chrono Package Launch Control capabilities (how to use it after the breakin period), optimum engine operating temperatures (warm-up time and max RPM in breakin period), and how to best wash my vehicle. Thanks all!!!

Best,

Welcome!
As it relates to break in procedure, Porsche recommends not exceeding 4,250 rpm and not to let the engine lag in any gear (using a lower gear). As for warm up time, there are differing views. I don't let my engine warm up at all, I drive off. I am very gentle until the oil temp hits 160. Full warm up is 190. Porsche recommends keeping RPM < 6,000 until fully warmed up. Note, this is the procedure after break in is over (2,000mi).
As for Sports Chrono use and launch control, I suggest you read the manual. Funny I have had two 991's and am an autocross and track guy, but have never used launch control on either car.

As for washing, everyone has different methods. The key is plenty of water, soft micro towels and good products. I often am changing out my wheels between summer, winter and track sets and I find it is much easier to clean them when they are not on the car. I good non abrasive wheel cleaner is a must. Sonex is a very nice product for P Car care, but there are many out there.

Thanks for the info Frank. In the past I've used sponges or mittens to clean the car and microfiber towels to dry it. What do you recommend for cleaning the car? Are sponges or mittens ok (should they be made of microfiber too?)? Also, what would you recommend as a cleaning solution for the car? For rims in the past I've used brushes but those seem to ruin the finish so what do you recommend (brush, sponge, mittens, etc.). Thanks in advance.

For the wheels, I use a spray on wheel cleaner (Mothers Wheel Cleaner for Aluminum wheels. . After they are rinsed I wash them with a micro fiber mitten that is only used on the wheels and the car wash that I use. I suggest you visit griotsgarage.com They have all sorts of detailing supplies.
