DIY : To paint Sport Seat back panel

I did this job in 2013 and think that it's time to share.
This option was not anymore in the list of PAG option so I did it by myself.

1 you have to remove the seats from the car. Take care seats are very heavy.

2 you can disassemble all bottom parts without any problems I didn't make pictures. just take time to do it, no hurry.

3 the most important and touchy process will be the removal of the leather on the back covers.

4 You remove first the leather on the perimeter on the cover, see the pictures, you will understand how it works. you have to use a large thin tool with a cloth to protect the contact. Press with the tool in order to release the leather clamping (you can use a light in order to well see the clamp in the cover groove otherwise I attached some pictures to locate the cover clamps)

5 You have to peel off (unstick) the foam on the lateral bodyrest in order to have access to 3 screws on each side.

6 Unscrew the 6 bolts (torx)

7 Unscrew also the 2 bolts which maintain the airbag on the steel frame.

8 Most touchy = removal of the back seat levers. Analyse very well how clamping works to understand how to remove them.

9 You have to pull on the top of the cover (headrest) to free 2 clips (middle of the headrest) / steel frame.

10 This is time to paint

11 To restick the foam I used a 3M760 reference (special foam). Total cost = 235$ with paint at auto body shop

Hope it can help, regards. Did's

Rem : I didn't succeed to upload all pictures, contact me and I will send them to you

That looks really, really good. It is kind of astounding that given all the ridiculous options Porsche has on the configurator (inner door sills in leather anyone?), they do not offer this as part of the "interior package painted" option. Seems like an easy way to get at least another $750 out of us. I keep picturing these in the new graphite blue color for the 991.2. Well done modification, sir.

Question- how do I remove the seat release lever covers, etc. Also, you just painted over the coat hook, right?

Hi,

The levers on the left of the picture are screwed from the inner side (at the rotation axle)
The top lever has to be disassembled after the removal of the seat foam and, after removal you will easy remove the cover clipped on the rear cover frame.
I'm going to add some pictures your will understand...
Regards
Didier

So in other words, the rear clamshell comes off first, then I will be able to remove the seat latch release levers and the rest?

Yes for the clamshell, the "metalic" grey button on the lever comes first.
You can not just pull on the button, you will damage its clamping on the lever : you have to insert a very thin screwdriver (can not remember if it was from inside or outside the back of the seat) to release the pin clamping the button on the lever.
Look carefully with a flashlight, you will understand how this button is clamped...

The lever itself will stay on the seat back frame.

Hope it's clearer....
