I'm not implying there is anything wrong with being gay, nor driving a chick's car. I'm implying people take a lot of crap for a car with a persona. I don't understand that culture therefore asking car guys if there is in fact something to it, or just jealous haters.
To your point, car manufacturers spend a lot of time and money researching their target an dhow their cars are perceived. VM Beetle is an example, In the current generation of the car, they made it more "muscular" looking to appeal to me in an attempt improve sales - of which the majority are women. I don't perceive Porsche cabriolets to have the same image as most 911 drivers are men to begin with and as a previous poster shown images of a Turbo, in my opinion very few women would buy that car and that leaves men to drive them convertible or not.
I'd just drive what you like and what suits you. If you like the car, what do you car when everyone else thinks?
Personally I'd pick a Boxster over a 911 for the mid engine handing even though you see a lot of women driving them but I have 2 kids so I need the extra space - so 911 it is.
For what it is worth, I bought a 2017 C2S Cab a few months ago. As this is my first Porsche, I was actually more worried about the reputation of the stereotypical Porsche owner (uh, not you guys...other people...) rather than it being a ragtop. Thankfully, no one seems to give a damn about either issue. All I get are compliments and comments/questions from those who know something about 911s. I just spent the afternoon carving curvy roads in a huge state forrest, and I have to tell you that is was absolutely fantastic! Can't recommend this cab enough.

Yep, who cares what people think, some people around here thinks all people in Louisiana is slow and dumb based on an experience they had while on vacation, are you going to let that bother you since OP lives in Louisiana.
I have 3 kids and that's what a SUV and minivan is for. I like the look of the Boxster over any 911. The Boxster feels lighter and is more fun to drive. Can't beat a mid-engine two seat roadster. This is as girly as you get, I love my girly car.

The 986 Boxster was the first Porsche I ever bought and it was my favorite Porsche ever. Even though it doesn't have the power, the driving experience is second to none ...
For what it's worth a few years ago I used to drive a purple Mini Cooper convertible. Did I incur a homophobic slur at a traffic light once? Yes. Did I care? Nope. Blew the idiot a kiss and drove off (quite slowly, obviously, '04 Mini convertibles being what they are).
Since then I've had a 987 Boxster and now I have a 991 GTS Cab and a 981 Spyder. Ragtops all the way. For me (and this is wholly and deeply personal and probably related to my many years of being on 2 wheels only) driving a car with the top up is only half the full experience. If you suspect you might feel the same way and you go for a coupe because of image you will regret it. If you go for one because of reduced weight and that bit of extra tightness in the corners then that's different.
Or just get a cab and a DSC module like I did.
Can't speak about height as I'm 5' 10", but my friend who's 6' 4" says my 911 would suit him fine and thought the old 987 was too small.
I have a cab and never heard any comments. as far as fit is concerned, my 6'4" friend firs in the 911 with the seat way back. Not in my last car which was a cayman.
Do straight guys drive convertibles?
Some guys have a stigma about guys in convertibles. I'd like a convertible, but it's weird hearing some guys call it a chick's car or gay. I also read something about a yellow convertible being a gay icon. Some guys think a convertible is too showy. My own brother would never get a convertible. Help me understand the culture that shines a negative light on men in convertibles.
Anyway I'm looking at a 991 cab possibly a 4s. Are there any other convertibles that work out for tall men? (6'4" with long torso)
that's funny, dumbest comments, first cab and love it.
Here's a beauty that just so happens to be mine. Now for sale:http://www.ebay.com/itm/291904146261?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Too bad I can't get a new 991.2 GTS cab.....
I had a Cayenne GTS in Red and loved it except for the brake issues, and the lack of a smooth ride when I wanted it smooth.
GTS has better style, a cooler name, more features lumped in for a better package deal, and great performance without making the commitment to a turbo price. It's also a shame that they wait until the end of the product cycle to release it too.
I think convertibles are more popular with men then women because men don't care about the wind messing up their hair. As for gay men, I have no idea. But they are a small demographic so they can't account for majority of convertible sales.
I have no care about what others think. I have owned cabs, coupes and targas. Never heard of what you are talking about and wouldn't give it another thought if I were you. Buy what you like.
