Just Joined the 991 Club!!

I just sold my 2007 C4S basalt black and upgraded to a 2012 991S cab in Platinum Silver, PDK with sport exhaust and many other options. Does the 991 model or the 2012 being the first year have any known problems or design issues? How is the reliability of these cars? My 997 was pretty solid but with all the new technology in the 991, I was debating getting an extended warranty since the factory warranty just expired and it's not certified. Is it worth it since the extended is about 5-6k with a $250 deductible?

Congrats on the 991. I've probably had my car longer than anybody else and driven it further as well. Do a search for posts I've started to get some idea of reliability.

Overall, after the 2nd tranny was installed in 2013, I've had zero problems and just about to eclipse 80k miles. I'm happy with it.

2nd tranny? Why was it replaced?

Congratulations on the 991, I believe you will find it a substantial upgrade. I've had my 2012 991 since May, 2013 and have had only one issue right after I bought it- a radiator overflow valve (replaced under warranty).

Are you happy with the color? I am not a big silver fan but this car I found has all the right options. It's really hard to find the right car with the right options at the right price. The inventory is extremely low.

So anyone buy and extended warranty after the factory expired? If so how much should I expect to pay in the US and is it worth it? It kinda makes me nervous with no warranty and not knowing the reliability of these newer cars and the repair costs.

Not a lot of extended warranties on here. I'm in the same place. My car is a 2013 4S. My warranty is up in Jan. I looked at Fidelity and CNA. The cost is $3500 approx. I haven't spent that in regular maintenance or warranty issues in 4 years. My car has been flawless but I do all the necessary things at the right time. This might be the P car I keep the longest.

I've decided to fly naked with no warranty and I'll keep a monthly slush fund for the occasional issue. Good luck with the car and your choice.

Each time was a different reason. I throw it to teething issues. I've really had no problems since. Outside of a PCM burp, an update fixed it, I've had zero issues beyond normal wear n tear.
I have not found an extended warranty and tried about 6 companies, no coverage. Actually I'm happy I didn't. It would have been a waste of money so far.
You'll be fine. As with most cats, if it doesn't blow up within 6 months, then you'll probably be fine.

Congrats on the new ride. Question for the group - I'm looking to upgrade my 2010 997.2 C4S M6 and am debating between a newer 997.2 PDK or a 991.1 PDK. Anyone do the 997.2 to 991 and regret it? I know it's a different machine. Thoughts?
