I have a 2012 (991) 911 Carrera S and I want to know if there is a software update for this car. I see that people talk about version PCM 3.0 and 3.1, also, 4.76. My radio shows that I have the version 3.41. So, is this considered PCM 3.0, 3.1 or actually 3.4?
I'm having some problems with the audio Bluetooth. After the 4th or 5th time of me entering the car, the phone will stop connecting to the radio. I tried restarting the phone, turning the car off and on, but nothing. The only thing that fixes the problem is unpairing the phone and do the pairing process again. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with Android 6.0.1.
I called my local Porsche dealer (NJ, USA) to ask about a possible software update and they told me that the 3.41 is the current version for my car. But I'm not sure if believe them since they said that after 15 seconds on the phone. I explained them about the Bluetooth problem and the answer was "I don't know". The car is still under extended warranty.
Is it possible to update it to PCM 4? I do want to add a backup (and maybe front) camera in the future, but the ones I'm looking for says that I need PCM software version 4 or higher.
By the way, computer programming is what I do for a living. If anyone wants to share any extra technical information please feel free to do so.
Here's a screen shot of my radio showing the version number.
Thank you for your help and I'm sorry for the long post.
The PCM 3.x is riddled with BT issues. I was hopeful that the 4 would be better but still happens.
Possible to update to 4? Maybe if money is no object. More likely impractical given the amount of hardware and software involved at a premium (aka anything Porsche sells). I haven't read any reliable report of it been done.
Easier and better to go aftermarket if you wish a decent nav with modern features.

Thank you for the response John. I drove a loaner 2017 Macan and a 2016 Cayenne for a week each and I didn't have any of these problems. They had the PCM 4 installed. Maybe is not only the software but the hardware also?
I don't want to replace the unit, I was just wondering if my unit can get an update. Maybe PCM 4 is out of the question due to hardware limitations.
I would have to talk in person on my next service and see.
I just had my PCM replaced under warranty. The car is a 2012 991. The software version is 3.43. Prior to this replacement there were "no new versions of s/w" for my car as well.
