For anyone considering a new exhaust for your 991.2 ......Our 2017 Porsche PSE exhaust development is officially underway. Over the next 2-3 weeks we will be developing our direct bolt on replacement X-Pipe, designed to replace the OEM center muffler, as well as our direct replacement, high flow catalytic converters that will bolt in place of the OEM converters and mate to the OEM muffler. All components are mix and match with OEM PSE components and can be installed independently or as a complete system.

The SpeedTech 991.2 X-Pipe will feature our signature True-X design for a truly outstanding exotic sound and will utilize vacuum activated sound valves, exactly like the OEM PSE system. This will allow the user to retain the factory switch options that come standard with the OEM PSE exhaust, allowing the operator to choose the desired sound level with the switch in the car - same as OEM PSE.

Below are pictures of the development car getting ready to go up on the lift and then the OEM PSE system removed. Jig fabrication is underway, key components have been scanned and we are focused on delivering the best sounding aftermarket exhaust option available for the 991.2

Once this new system is fabricated, tested, refined and perfected, it will be heading to our private test track for an extensive camera and go-pro video session. Stay tuned for updates and video.

 

UPDATE: We made major progress on our 991.2 exhaust project over the past week and are extremely pleased with the results. Pictured below is a completed set of our new 991.2 high flow catalytic converters, utilizing the larger 5", 130mm, HJS "directional" cores.

The first configuration up for testing was the 991.2 OEM muffler with our new HJS high flow cats. Similar to previous Porsche Turbo models, we found that improving the exhaust flow with high flow cats enabled more rapid turbo spool, improved power delivery, crisper throttle response and a very nice, enhanced turbo whistle note in sport mode. The sound difference is subtle over the OEM cats. In our opinion, upgrading the cats is a performance upgrade with a very slight bump in sound level and a little added turbo spool sound. The character of the sound remains identical to OEM, power delivery is enhanced and the car feels noticeably quicker.

Our plug and play 991.2 valved X-Pipe should be ready for testing/video over the following week. The modular design of this system will allow each of the components to be used independently of each other (SpeedTech Cats/OEM muffler or OEM cats/SpeedTech X-Pipe) or in unison (SpeedTech cats/SpeedTech X-Pipe), as a complete performance/sound package. Here's a look at our final 991.2 X-Pipe design. We had a chance to fire it up today and the sound is incredibly good. Not too loud, but very sporty with valves opened up - extremely tasteful and well mannered with valves closed.

REVIEW:

Firstly, I have no skin in the game here and like you I rely on good feedback to make informed decisions. For guys looking for a little more than what their current 991.2 Sport Exhaust offers, the Speedtech exhaust fits the bill perfectly.

As John has such a great reputation in the business when he asked me if I wanted to be the R&D test mule for the design of his 991.2 exhaust system, I jumped at the opportunity with the condition that after he designed it, he would just upgrade my cats to his custom hand made 'high flow' versions and put my stock PSE back in the car.

However, after going down for some testing on Saturday I was quickly turned into a believer. Before posting, I wanted to sleep on it and give it an extra day, as being able to give unbiased feedback is important. After going out again this morning with my wife I am loving the Speedtech exhaust even more! It gives the car a more exotic aggressive tone mixed with some more pronounced and fantastically intoxicating turbo spool sound.

Another great part of the system is it is valve operated just like the stock PSE and can be dialed down when putting the car in normal mode. I would say the quiet mode with the Speedtech exhaust is comparable to the stock PSE in 'Sport Mode' just has a bit more exotic tone. The Sport Mode is a level above that, but it did pass the true test-my wife thought it sounded really good(and I had it in the louder mode the whole time). The other benefit worth noting is the car feels more responsive and overall faster. John(who owns a boosted up 996 Turbo) couldn't believe how unbelievably fast the car was.

Having been there and then watching the posted video I can tell you that the video doesn't do the system the justice it deserves. Really well done. Thumbs up Speedtech! Thank you John and Chad.

Is your's just exhaust or also with sport cats?

 

I have both the Speedtech sport cats and X-pipe. Obsolutely love it. Another great thing about Speedtech is that you can by each piece or a complete system. BTW the system is about 20 pounds lighter than the factory PSE system. General speaking the sport cats give you most of the extra power gained(typically 15-25hp on a turbo) and the X-pipe gives you the great sound with a slight power gain from mixing the banks(Harley is know for doing this).

 

A video of the SpeedTech 991.2 Switchable X Pipe valves in operation just became available to us. I thought some of you may be interested in seeing the valves in operation. They work beautifully. Note: It is hard to hear the difference as the video is taken from just under the motor and the motor noise is overpowering the exhaust from this vantage point, but it's a great view of the valves and how smooth they operate.
