New to the Forum and Porsche!! With a little issue...

Hello everyone! I am new to the forum and to the porsche community! If I am posting in the wrong thread please let me know!
I am currently in the market trying to get ahold of a 991 but I'm town between two model years.
Between a 2012 Carrera S or a 2013 Carrera S
I am in no hurry trying to get the cars so I could wait for depreciation to hit a little bit more, but my only concern is if there's any issues with a 2012 model because it's the first model make over and stuff like that. I'm leaning towards the 2012 model because I found one that's with in my budget and has all the bells and whistles that I want in my Porsche! So I just want to know if there's any first model year problems or issues to look out for or if the 2013 will be better quality since I assume they will fix any bugs or issues from the 2012 model. Thanks for your time and understanding! I will be posting often because I do indeed have lots of question! Thanks y'all!!

There were no teething issues with either the 2012 or the 2013's.
No cosmetic differences between the 2 years.
The 2013 MT models have rev-matching (when downshifting), irrelevant if you're buying a PDK.
All you really need is a good service history and a comprehensive inspection. CPO,PPI etc.

Thanks for the information and quick response! So as long as I get the PPI I should be good? As far as CarFax is there any other source of getting vehicle information? A lot of carfax statements that I've seen don't seem to show a lot of maintenance schedules or repairs done

Carfax isn't bulletproof. Apparently there can be a delay between when issues occur and when they're reported. Basically a 30 day dead spot.
But you could also go to a Porsche dealer with the VIN and request the service history.

There is another Porsche forum (also run by enthusiasts) with a thread called "Hot Sale Pick of the Week".
There are some really good deals and reference points to be found there.

Look for a Certified car. You can't beat two years of warranty.

A 2012 or 2103 (with an inservice date before April 18 will already be out of warranty. CPO if you want a warranty.

Thanks for all the information y'all! So I will be looking out for CPO and as well as taking the VIN number to a Porsche dealership to check the history of a car! I found a really nice fully loaded 2012 C2S with high mileage... roughly 80k that's another concern I don't know if mileage will play an issue if the car was serviced frequently and everything doing good! But for sure I'll keep those two things in mind!

I have a "2012.5", eg, launch car. In typical Porsche style It had a bunch of "campaign" fixes over the first year. Never had an actual problem and its running strong after 5 years and 33k miles. Its by far the best quality of the several 911s I've had over the last 40 years. As posts above tell- be sure to check the service history and be aware that teh expensive ones come at 20 and 40 k.

Thanks for the heads up! And that's good to hear! Makes me more comfortable getting that 2012 model 991! It fits my budget more since it is a little bit lower and hopefully I can find one with 40 k miles with the 40 k mile scheduled maintenance ! I'll definitely check out the service history! I'm going to try that Porsche Vin number scan at the dealership soon! Hopefully I'll be a proud owner of the that Porsche by summer!

I also have a 2012.5 base PDK SC and have had "campaign" issues and two warranty issues, but no major issues. These seem to be bullet proof except for the 2500 RPM stumble which you can read about in another thread.

That's good to hear! I've heard nothing but good things about 911s and how solid of a car they are ( except those few with the IMS bearing I'm looking at you 996) but yea that's good to hear that your car has been bulletproof so far! Im concerned about those hidden issues that won't pop up for a while or just by sheer bad luck of a car deal I got!

I've owned two 991 cars with absolutely no problems...a '13 MT C4 and my current '15 GTS. These cars really are engineered to last. My advice is pay close attention to the car and keep up with scheduled maintenance and you'll be okay...don't cut corners or overlook repairs or maintenance because of cost.

That's good to hear! I'm trying to get my Porsche around late ish summer when the new 2018 models roll out or later around December because I've read a few articles about how sports car are easier to get around winter because nobody wants to drive one! I'm sure it's all bias and speculated bull but it doesn't hurt to try! Haha but hopefully around those two periods of time I'll be able to get my car and everything! I'll be on top of my repairs asoon as I see something up! Thanks for the advice!

PS I believe the people who have complained about a "stumble" issue at 2500 rpm - but I have never had that problem. I got nearly 20k miles from the original tires (P0) which I thought was exceptional. I just got my first warning light - check "third brake light" when the spoiler retracts. That is due to age (5 years) or too much slowing down from high speeds, I guess.

That's unfortunate! I will be using my Porsche as a DD I do a roughly around 25 mile commute each day out of town so a lot of high way miles if it can hold up to that I'll be super satisfied!
