I have before- a 997.2S for $1000 off and I waited on a 991.1S for a few months for the price to come down $13k. I've found that buying near the end of the calendar year is pretty effective.

My 991.1 CPO had just arrived and was the first one with all the options I wanted so being a fresh trade I was unable to negotiate down from asking, but did negotiate up on the trade value so I guess that counts?

I bought our 2012 991 Carrera in 2012 with just over 1000 miles on it. It came with a 100,000 mile 6 year Porsche warranty. The discount from the original window sticker was 18%. The original owner found that he would be better served by a Cayenne and traded it back to the original selling dealer. It has been a great car and have had 0 problems.

Certified is great in many cases but don't think it's perfect. I went to buy a 2007 997 and noticed a large dent in the door sill. I asked how that could happen and found out certified cars can even have been in a small accident. In addition, there are acceptable mechanical shortcomings allowed also because the mechanical checklist is not that extensive. They say it costs dealers $2000 to do it, but remember the addition warranty is a large part of that- and in fact, I think the warranty is the biggest advantage. One could buy a vehicle from an individual, do a PPI with a compression test and buy a warranty also.

You have to take into account the market conditions.

FWIW, back in June 2009 I bought a CPO 996 Turbo with 10K miles for $57.7K with the "list" price of $61.9K. But sales were way down then. (Earler in the year, in early April, I bought a new 2008 Cayman S marked down from a sticker price of $62.6K to $50.6K and even got a bump in the trade in allowance for my 2006 GTO.)

Remember: Price is not fact only an opinion. Do your research to find out as best you can what the market is for these cars and base your offer on that.

Used cars have a pretty high mark up. (That traded in GTO I got less than $16K for it but it showed up on a nearby GM used car lot with a price of almost $20K.)

My usual advice is to check the online used car sites for the wholesale/trade-in value of the car you are interested in and start your negotiation from that point.

I'm not sure I even know what a "listed price" is ? ... if you mean the asking price - I've always found it is just that ... an initial asking price -- 3 CPO Porsches - 2013 Boxster S in late 2015, 2013 Carrera S in late 2016, and a 2017 Cayenne S a couple of months ago. I've never paid the initial asking price - usually getting about $1500 - 2500 off their starting price -- very dependent on how long they have had the car in stock -- oh, and for what it is worth it is always a no financing offer.

I'm looking at a 991.1 2015 under 500 miles. The issue is that's it's on the other side of country. Would you recommend me just contacting the dealer directly make offer and have them ship or work with local dealer ?

While I prefer to shop globally (so to speak) I prefer to buy locally. It makes checking out the car so much easier.

If you are thinking of buying a car on the other side of the country the seller is going to believe there are no other acceptable cars closer to you and will hold out for a higher price.

Since I've never bought a car via long distance I don't know if dealing with the selling dealer directly or dealing with your local dealer would be the best way.

You can I guess touch base with your local dealer and lay out the situation and see what your local dealer has to say. Talk to the sales manager or general manager and not a salesman.

I know others are comfortable buying a car sight unseen but I'm that guy that, when spending this kind of cash, wants to see it with my own eyes and confirm that there are no unexpected dings, scrapes, door gaps uneven, etc. to confirm the story. Maybe it's me but I'd put a refundable deposit on it, hop on a cheap flight and go see it. Trust, but verify.

No need to involve the local dealer. I'd try to arrange for a PPI if you're interested. You could also ask someone local to put eyes on it, probably best posted on Rennlist.

Agree, work with the dealer directly. Also, I would much prefer to see the car myself if possible - but that being said, a PPI can provide a lot of reassurance. I just bought my 991.1 TT sight unseen - but you just gotta ask all the questions about the car - and get lots of detailed pics!
