Does Porsche discount special orders?...
I think the more pressing issue is finding a dealer that has sufficient allocations.
To a certain extent my understanding is that pretty much all (at least the 911's) are special ordered in the sense that the dealer gets an allocation for a car.. and then the dealer orders what they want on that allocation..
So when you think you are custom ordering, what you are really doing is spec'ing an already dealer allocated car.. And to that end most dealers don't have any problem doing that as long as what you are ordering is somewhat sell-able should you bail out on the order (since even on a special order you don't actually buy the car until after it arrives).
So from the dealer pricing perspective, there isn't much difference between an ordered car and one they ordered.. If a particular dealer is open to for example a 4% discount it doesn't matter if it is for an ordered special or not.
That said, my experience is with base's, S's and 4's... Not sure how it translates to GTS, TT's and other models.. With those you start to run into supply and demand issues which I can easily see a dealer being less willing to discount..
But all that said, it just depends.. a car sitting on a lot for a while unsold will always be more susceptible to being further discounted (the plane girl at the dance will often cut her standards and dance with the geek as it gets later in the evening).
My point is that all things being equal I've found that buying from a dealer with larger allocations tends to result in a bit more flexibility in discounts..But there are also dealers that have pissed me off so bad, I'd never deal with them again.
