Fabspeed 991.2 x-pipe - review

Received it 2 weeks ago and instaled it as fast as I could.

THE INSTALL:

Was a bit more than expected, but got it done in about 5 hours. Mainly because the hardware provided by fabspeed for the install was incorrect.

There are 2 clamps that hold the x-pipe to the car, but the ones provided were just to small and couldnt be closed or adjusted, so had to run to Home depot to buy some.

After that, contacted fabspeed about it, so they would send the right ones, as the ones I got in home depot were not automotive grade ones. But the aftersale customer service with fabspeed is not the same as the pre-sale customer service.

They just said the clamps provided were the correct ones, and that was that.

I was there during the install and I can asure you, they were so small they couldnt even be closed to grab the x-pipe.

Well, but that was the install, and were are here to review the product.

THE FIT:

We finished the install, but when we fitted the exhaust tips, I was far from impressed.

The stock tips steped out about 2 1/2 inches from the bumper.

Lets say the look was far more RICER than I could take. So next they I had to go to a Muffler shop, were they cutted 1 inch off the piping, so that they could get the exhaust tips within tolerable distance. Now they are 1 1/4 outside of the bumper, wish is tolerable.

I had to pay 150 dlls to get them to fit right, to wish fabspeed customer service said, that the tips being 2 1/2 outside of the bumper was perfect and that it was to prevent damage to the bumper. Not quite what I was looking for my luxury sport car, may have been correct for when I was 16 years old and had my HONDA CIVIC.

Does this look like a correct fit, the tips a 2 1/2 inch out of the bumper.

Inside the exhaust tip, were the muffler shop cutted 1 inch off the pipe

This of course was after cutting 1 inch off the pipe, before it was ridiculos.

THE SOUND:

About the sound, like everyone says, sound is subjective. But here is my point of view, and my experience

We just finished the install, and I had to turn the car on, so to hear the difference. The first start up, was really disapointing, the car sounded basically like stock. Went out for a drive and just a few farts and burbles were added to the equation.

Went to sleep like I had spent $2,000 bucks for nothing.

But to my luck, I think the exhaust needs a bit of burning in.

Next morning I waked up and fired it up again, and the sound had increased a bit.

It is a subtle increase, I kind of like it, it lets you know the engine is there, you get the farts and burbles of the SPORT MODE, and it is not to much, so my wife doesnt hate it.

I believe the sound from outside the car is more, than what you can persive form inside the car.

CONCLUSION:

Subtle increase in sound, with farts and burbles, not great, not bad.

INCORRECT HARDWARE FOR THE INSTALL PROVIDED BY THE SELLER

AND ABOUT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE, one of my worst Online experiences of the AFTER SALE CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Before you buy, John Gaydos is of great help and answers all your questions immediately.

But when things went wrong after the sale, didnt get any response after 5 days, and then he pass me to after-sale customer service with BEVERLY Schaible, which job is just to tell you that everything is correct and that you are wrong.

Would have been happy with a correct set of hardware CLAMPS, but couldnt even get that.

Your experience was so similar to mine, that's eerie...
I agree the tips extruding like that is a bit ricer. Particularly considering how 911 owners are particular and you knew the way it looked before.
I installed mine in my prior cars as well, it's frustrating to hit a roadblock due to incorrect hardware. At least you didn't step on a screw barefoot like me...

sorry to hear about your foot john, but when you are with your car stripped and you get incorrect or missing hardware, those kind of things sort of happen, as your mind is in another place trying to figure out what to do to fix the problem

getting a lot of similar stories from members on other forums

the only thing that I haven't got is the correct clamps from fabspeed

I'm kind of surprised to hear negative support and fitment feedback. I've always heard these guys have a solid reputation.

I'm about to order some cat bypass pipes for my PSE equipped C2S. Im a little concerned that the car will get too loud.

I just looked at the website, it seems like they make an adjustable set of tips for their x pipe/muffler delete setup. Is there adjustability on the OEM tips.. there's no way, regardless of what the support rep. said to you on the phone, that the tips should stick out like that by design.

Im guessing they designed it for use with their tips and didnt want to dsicourage potential sales by saying you must modify OEM tips if your wish to retain them.

As far as sound, Im guessing its going to get somewhat louder as that resonator breaks in. Please post a video if you have a chance, Id love to hear it!

I thought their tips were the ones that were to long, that is why I went with oem tips, but now I know the x-pipe was the problem

here is a pic off their website

That's horrendous, but they're supposed to be adjustable

The replacement clamps later on got really rusty and a bit scary. They ignored me after saying they are not covered by warranty. Once Chuckj took notice, the fabspeed people stepped up and sent me new ones. It's a shame they need to get slammed here for a few days... they do have solid engineering, but as I said before in that particular thread, customer service can taint all the engineer efforts and investments.

I would suggest that you take it up with the sales guys. If they are aware of how you are being handled I would image they would intervene.

Theres no opportunity for repeat business if tech support is not exceeding expectations!

Thanks for posting - just what I needed to hear about the subtle difference and saved me the cost and disappointment. Maybe Akrapovic is the way to go for much improved sound?

the increase in sound is subtle, but it is ok

kind of like pse valves open

if you want something more than pse valves open, I will order sport cats also

to tell you the truth, I don't think any exhaust will make a big difference if it is just the center muffler delet

I've had my Fabspeed x pipe for almost a year. Is 100% louder than a PSE valve open. Trust me, I've been to many Porsche events. My tips stick out more than I would like, but not nearly as much as your photo.
