Hi Guys,

hope everyone had a happy thanksgiving, the story, Discount Tire last Monday Installed TPMS sensors on my brand new wheels and tires, not a single scratch, I had a busy week and never inspected the wheels when the job was done and left today I painted my calipers and when removing each wheel I noticed that all 4 wheels had pits inside the wheel barrel and scratches, I guess from removing the weights, the pits not sure if the machine or what can cause those holes.
I'm going back on Monday to show the damage to the manager, but I need some help any suggestions or what to expect would be great, maybe someone had a similar problem in the past? thanks for any help.

The scratches on the inside of wheel barrel are caused be the tire mounting machine. Your wheels were about an inch larger than the machine was designed for. They can "stretch" it a little by removing the plastic (?) protectors that expose the metal grippers. These cause the gouges in the softer aluminum wheels. As to the scratches on the outside face of the wheel...poor handling by the installer?
I wouldn't be too concerned with the scrapes on the inside. On the face of the wheel...that's something else. Take the wheels back and see if they'll do something for you.

 

thanks dbh , Yes sir LR wheel, and that's what I thought , but also a bunch of scratches from something, not sure what tool he used for removal of Weights, my wheels are brand new and now you can see from the outside all this scratches, you said not be concerned but if it was me buying those wheels now, that would definitely lower the value of all four wheels.

I don't want now to mess with a mobile wheel repair company, what would be a fair compensation for this?

 

Best of luck with this, but I'd say you're SOL. Next, take it to ur dealer. May cost a little more, but never had a problem when they make a mistake.

 

take it back to installer and have them fix it on their dime

after fixed, never go back to them

 

going back tomorrow, not sure I want to leave the car there couple of days to have those fixed or have a mobile guy there to repaint and filled all the interior barrel and I'm sure they don't replace wheels when they f..... up stuff like this.

 

From what I know of it dealerships also use these mobile repair services.

 

Leslierc, yes mine does, I never had a Porsche wheel repaired, only painted.
would you be ok, having your brand new center locks repaired?

 

I already have. Scratched a wheel a few months ago, asked local Porsche dealership to recommend a mobile repair service and they did, tech came same day and completely repaired the wheel. Damage is now imperceptible.

Life goes on.

 

totally understand, different situation when you damaged your own wheel, as when somebody else, when you are paying for a service the Dealer or Tire shop damages all of four wheels.

 

Then they are supposed to make it right. However, that may not mean replacing wheels when damage is cosmetic. I would honestly go with the repairs, but that’s me.

 

If they were brand new wheels, why would the installer be removing weights?

 

because I had to remove the sensors I bought from Tire rack, they sold me the wrong ones, bought another set from Discount tire, they installed the sensors and re balanced the tires

 

Should be called discount tire and mounting. You get what you pay for.

 

never had a problem with DT before and they do Road force, I called one dealer and never returned phone calls, my dealer was busy And I didn't want to wait.
