How about that almost $100K MSRP for a base Carrera with a modest 9 HP bump in power ? Thats kind of disappointing considering a 997.2 Carrera T could've been had for just over $100K with a lot of special features as standard.

I will be ordering a new Porsche 992 soon. I don't usually buy the year of the introduction. I am going with a 2021 or 2022.

For having been to see it, and try it, I don't appreciate the small gear selector, the extra 40K € price in Europe is not justified, on the other hand the screen is magnificent, but big problems of finishing at the rear windshield seals

992 on the track

I was extremely fortunate to be invited by Porsche to test drive the new 992 at my local track (Summit Point, WV) last weekend. What an awesome day and incredible cars! The 4-hour event also included driving the Panamera GTS on the track, 30-mile road tests of the new Cayenne S and Macan, and using a 718 Cayman GTS in an autocross (jealous yet?). The day ended with riding shotgun for a hot-lap in the Panamera eHybrid Turbo S with a factory racer at the wheel (literally took to the air on the back straight at 125mph!). Thank you, Porsche and the Porsche Experience crew!!

But back to the 2020 992 S...while more portly than my daily driver ('07 997 TT) this is a phenomenal machine that i'm now lusting after despite the $142k msrp for the nicely optioned version they also had on display at the track. We weren't permitted to go *****-out in the follow-the-leader laps around the Shenandoah circuit at Summit Point, but the instructor in the lead car was definitely encouraging us to "keep up". The car made everyone feel like a track hero: its planted, sticky, great feedback from the wheel made me forget it was electrically assisted, quick response from the turbo motor, and lighting fast shifts. I've never driven a 991, so i don't have a good yardstick by which to measure the advances made in the 992, but compared to my 997 this is a completely different car in almost every respect other than the familiar shape and what is still a feeling of "oneness" between driver and machine. I realize this abbreviated review probably isn't telling you anything new that you have already heard about the car, so happy to entertain any questions you all might have after my somewhat limited experience with the car.

Had an up close look at one yesterday at a dealer. $168K for a C2S coupe!? No PTS, or other crazy high-dollar options. If this is going to be the trend I see the 992 turbo well into 200K.
Still prefer the 991/991.2.

I have mixed feelings about the design of the car. When I owned a 996 and the 997 launched, I knew that I had to have one. The same was true when the 991 launched; I knew I would own one as soon as I saw it. I can’t say the same for the 992. It has some styling elements that are a step backwards compared to the 991. For example, the new bonnet with squared off corners that doesn’t line up with the front bumper cover is hideous. The nicely curved lines of the 991 bonnet look much better. The rear tail lights are okay, but what’s up with the center brake light? It looks like a last minute add-on that doesn’t seem to align with the other design elements. It’s little details like like those that make the new design seem like it was not considered as a whole. I haven’t yet seen inside a 992 in person, but I agree that the little shifter nub and the big cup holder are not attractive.

My guess is that the 992.2 will address many of these design issues.

I’m sure the car is a joy to drive and I’ll probably own a 992 sometime in the future, but this is the first new 911 generation that doesn’t make me want to trade in my current 911.

Test drove 992 yesterday

I am an owner of a 991.2 911S (7speed manual). I stopped by my local dealer to see when the 992 might be available to order with a manual. Still no date! He invited me to test drive a 992 S with the 8 speed pdk. I have very mixed feelings and am glad I drove. The dash, computer interface is now in Panamera territory and I'm not sure I am a fan. Lot's of functions are now buried deep in the screen. The over aesthetics of interior are better but the car feels like a computer now.

Driving the car was also a very mixed bag. The 992 feels much much smoother than my 991.2 and my 991.2 is miles smoother than my old 997! Previously I've been a fan of the gradual refinement process but maybe now (for me) it's gone too far. I certainly don't begrudge Porsche tailoring the car to the market(s) they need to succeed but I found the combination of computer interface display and smooth, heavy car a bit disappointing. Also, though I am a manual transmission enthusiast I feel Porsche blew it removing the PDK lever and replacing with a toggle.

I have an Aston Martin Vantage AMR (7 speed manual) on order and think car will retain a rougher and more old school character. After driving the 992 I feel more relaxed with changing brands. I've been a 911 driver for a very long time. Fingers crossed the Aston will be reliable enough for daily use.

Why no 992 specific thread? It's not a 991.

I love the 992. It's performance is a tad underwhelming considering price, but I think it's the best 911 to date.
