newbie to the forum

Hi guys! I'm new to the forum, and could possibly be in the market for a Porsche and it seems like the 993 is one of my favorites! Couple of questions though....

1) coming from a e39 BMW 540i 6 speed, can I expect about the same type of regular maintenance?

2) if i'm a DIYer, can a lot of the stuff on the 993 be done on your own?

3) is the main seal a big issue? what should i look for when considering one?

4) http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...ce=&cardist=39

Is the above car a good buy? I've bought from the dealership before, and I've spoken with them already, they want me to come in and drive it and talk with them. Carfax says it was in an accident, but the dealership said it was that the previous owner went off the road a little?

It's a two owner 993, and looks to be in very good shape. Should I be concerned about the higher mileage? Should I hold out for something better? I'm in no rush, just curious to see what you guys think.

Thanks again!

Andy

Welcome! I also came from 12 years of owning BMW's.
1. less, then the E39, but some parts may cost more.
2. Yup! It's just a little more work then the E39
3. NOPE, it's on the water pumpers, not the aircooled.
4. That car looks good for the price, get a PPI done on it. make sure it's had normal maintaince done. Find out what options is has on it.

Thanks for the reply! Does Bentley or another company make a manual for the 993 like they do for BMW's?

Also, if I ran a carfax on the car and it comes up as a 1995 Porsche 911 Carrera2/4....what does this mean? Is this a C2? How can I get a list of all the options that came equipped on the car?

Thanks,
Andy

Nope no manual. However there is a good book, it's a "must have" for a DIY'er
http://www.amazon.com/Porsche-Essent...0220473&sr=8-1

C2 & C4 are Carrera 2wd & Carrera AWD, chances are the one in the ad is a C2. The C4's cost a little more, & are rare for 1995, but it's the only year of the C4 narrow body.

If you pop the trunk, there is a sticker right under the hood, it will have a bunch of number on it, these are the option codes. You can decode them here....
