Fabspeed muffler question

Hey gang,

I just recently installed a set of used Fabspeed mufflers on my C4S. It makes the car sound like a monster which I love but shifting gears between 2000-3000rpm it gets really high pitched and loud, almost too much to bare. As soon as it gets above 3000rpm it's awesome. I was just wondering if any others have had any experiences with the Fabspeed mufflers and can help me determine if this is normal. Maybe my ears are too sensitive these days.

Thanks

David993S is infamous around these parts
I've had Fabspeed's Supercup "mufflers" and also their Maxflo mufflers on my 993, and got rid of both. Both, especially the Supercups, produced a loud drone at around 2600 - 2800 rpm. The Supercups sounded fantastic (like a Supercup 911.....duh) but were simply way too loud to live with on a daily basis. I could barely hear myself think inside the cabin. Like you have experienced, the drone kind of goes away above 3000 but the problem is 2600-2800 is just about where you cruise when on the highway or interstate. I got rid of both mufflers and ended up getting Robin Sunn's RSRs. Great sound with absolutely no droan at all. Another brand I would recommend for slightly more sound is FisterD (in California). Again, great sound with no drone in the cabin at cruising speeds. It would be hard to go wrong with either RSRs or Fister D's (he makes 3 levels). I'm sure if do a you search for Fister D mufflers it will come up........not sure about Robin Sunn - not even sure if he's still modifying 993 mufflers anymore.

Hope that helped.

Cheers.

Go here:

If you check around (like on Rennlist) you'll find nothing but praise for his product and service.

I had the same problem with my fabspeed mufflers. Too much drone when you are at idle around 2k RPM, but when you are on the gas it does sound great. I am planning on replacing them. May even get my OEM muffler gundo and put them back in.

The fister mod is awesome, and you can have any local S/S welder install the pipe. We have shops here in KC that will do it for under $150 if you bring them the pipe (2" S/S pipe is what you need). One of the best sounding exhausts for the 993 I have installed.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll have to look into those other mufflers. Not sure if I'm gonna put my stocks back in for the time being or stick with the fabs. I like to see how they are on the track.

I gutted my factory mufflers, similiar to the RSR mod. If you have a welder, its really easy to do.
There is a little bit of a drone below 3k, but it has a nice deep sound to it. I only wish it was louder above 5k...
Let me know if you are going to part with your supercups.

Thumbs up 993 fabspeed system maxflows and sport cats

I installed the maxflows on my 1998 993 this summer and love them. About a month later though I added the 200 cell sport cats and the system is awesome.well worth the additional cost for performance and sound quality. I don't track this car and did not want an annoying loud system. Based on all the web sites and Youtube videos I went with the Fabspeeds and I'm very happy. I have a motosport airbox and may get the fabspeed supercup box as well. I did think the supercup system would be too loud for my liking.
