Getting a 993 C4S.Need Advice! Long!! Pics included
Going from a 997 C4S to a 993 C4S.Need Advice! Long!! Pics included
Hi Guys,
So i had the opportunity of selling my 2006 Carrera 4S Cab and make a 10000$ profit in 6 months of ownership.
I jumped on the opportunity and will be getting rid of it within the next week.
This 07 C4S was my first Porsche and after 6 months of ownership i really understood what Porsche stood for.
So i was left with the feeling of what should i get now.
The person taking over my car owns a 1996 C4 Cab and asked me if we can trade cars for a few days since the paperwork would take 2 weeks and he would be storing my 997 so he wanted to drive it before storing it.
I said no problem.
Honestly it's been instant love since the moment i've had his 993.
Now his car is a cab and i'm not too crazy about the looks of the older cabs and it's not in very good shape.
But man what a feeling. Completely different then driving my 997.
Though the 997 is awesome and has all the gadgets that i love i for some reason can't stop thinking about 993's.
So i started looking for one and found a few.
I now have the one im considering on buying and will be making an offer tomorrow.
The car is a 1996 Carrera 4S in Polar Silver.
It is in absolute mint condition and have honestly rarely seen a car let alone a 15 year old car in such good condition.
Everything about it is mint. The only thing that has some wear really is the Driver's seat.
The car has a few extras that really make it stand out.
It has the Turbo wing , Xenons , a special chrome exhaust ( not sure what it is and not very familiar with aftermarket pieces ) , It has those amazing seats Adaptive sport seats i think they're called and a few more things.
The car has 79,000km which is 49,000 miles.
The asking price for it is 50000$ Canadian and my offer will be 45000$ Canadian.
Which in US $ represents about 43500$ with today's exchange rate.
So what do you guys think?
I've been reading up on a few threads and most 993 owners swear by them.
Will i regret the day i sold my 997 for a 993 ?
How about the price? Is it reasonable?
I've seen a few around the Usa that go for low 40's and high 30's but by the time i bring it down to Montreal with duties and transport etc it would come up to about the same price.
So i think i would prefer dealing with a local car so that i can make sure everything is in tip top shape before purchasing it.
Another question is do you think it will gain value in the years to come or depreciate.
And lastly this will probably be my "mostly" daily driver.
Winters here are nuts so on bad winter days i will not be driving it.
But can anyone comment on the fact that it's a 4 and winter.
Are these 993 4's ( AWD ) just as good as a 997 (AWD) 4.
I know i said a lot and any help, input would be greatly appreciated.
Here are a few pics of the car i'm looking to buy.
Thanks

The car presents well but the price is a bit high (by US standards, unsure of import tariffs in Canada). Be nice to see shots of the interior as well as a photo of the factory sticker under the bonnet (which will tell about how the car was optioned).
Only the 993tt came from the factory with that wing. Check to see if it's a Porsche OEM or aftermarket.
The 993 will hold value better than the 997 over time; however, the AWD system of the 997 is vastly superior. I DD a 1998 C4S Aero for 18 months and it was a blast but eventually got an Audi S4 Avant for such duties since the car is vastly more comfortable and flexible.
Strongly suggest you do a PPI before buying any 993 as repairs can quickly become quite costly. Also, see what paperwork the car comes with in terms of history.
Lastly, how were you able to flip your 997 for a $10k profit?!

Thank you for the info!
Dealer who is selling it is a block away from my office. They have owned the car for about 10 years now and have seen it around the Montreal area for a while.
Spoke to Porsche already and they verified that the car was always fully serviced at porsche and is in great shape.
Turbo wing is Porsche OEM and not aftermarket.
As for winter i would definitely not drive it in major snow storms and am looking at getting a winter beater for the rough days... Thinking a 2001 - 2002 A4 Quattro
But i will probably not be able to look at it on a daily basis and not drive it

Will slap on some Nokian Hakkapeliita winter tires on it...
As for the profit well it was a lease transfer. Since i got a sick deal on my lease and payments are so low i asked 10000$ down to take it over.
The guy didn't even think twice! And rightfully so since it's practically impossible to get payments that i have on my 997.
I have a lineup of about 10 people waiting to see if this deal falls through so they can grab it as well with 10k down.
Ultimately i would love a 993 TT but they're really expensive. Still on the lookout though and actually just found one relatively cheap with 78k Miles on it.
Is that too much miles?
Here's a couple of pics of the interior as well as the options codes.
A few other Porsche OEM things were added like an Arm Rest.
if the ppi works out and you enjoyed driving the car, i would buy it. loooooove the hardback 993 sports seats. if you were to try to source those seats you would pay close to 5k some would say. 43.5 US for the car is fair. stunning car.
And i'm usually not a fan of Silver and definitely not Blue but for some reason this colour has grown on me !
Trending Topics
I mean 79k is really nothing for a 15 year old car!
I am so in love with the car but after reading all these threads everyone seems to be talking only about the TT.
Which is know is a completely different animal!
They're just so damn expensive... I found one for about $50K US but i'm a little iffy about the seller.
I will be running a carfax and maybe get it inspected as well.
Do you know how much a PPI would cost?
I mean for bout 7-8K$ more i'll definitely jump on the TT...
Doesn't have the hardback seats though
i've owned a NA 993 and now own a 993tt -- for a daily driver i would buy a NA over a turbo. the NA engine at 5000 rpms is sublime. the turbo is faster but it's more complicated in it's design, more expensive in it's upkeep and has the potential of more going wrong with it.
Few random thoughts on this thread:
1. Love a Pcar that's well known by the dealer. Nothing like records to back up the proper car care.
2. The 993 sports seats are a royal PITA on long trips. Love to look at 'em, hated driving in them. I'm 6'1" so it could be different for other dudes.
3. Had both a 1998 C4S Aero as well as the 993TT, as a DD the NA could make more sense. Lower upkeep, etc. BUT, the speed of the turbo blows away the standard engine.
4. For foul weather, the 993 ain't the best compared to an Audi A4 quattro. While you could get killer snow tires for the 993, you'll always deal with ground clearance. My 993 C4S was dropped to within an inch of its life and even a slight snow sprinkle felt like a blizzard.
Two cents from someone who's lived with both NA and turbo'd 993 cars.

My 997 had the adaptive sports seats and my 993 has the "regular" seats. The 993 is much more comfortable long distance. No more feeling like I'm being pinched in the seat for hours on end while still being supportive enough for HPDE use.
If it is what you want then GET IT! The car looks nice, and 911's in Canada do go for more then places in the US.
It has sport seats, they are desirable, but I'm not feeling the turbo wing. You will get annoyed always telling people it's a C4S & not a TT. Then seeing their look of disappointment.
It will make a wonderful DD, but you will NEED to get the front end done in clear bra. You will to keep up on all maintaince. The value of the car will go down as you drive it, but who cares you will be having so much fun with it! However, the car will always be worth more then other 993's.
My experience with my 95 C4 as a DD is a bit different then Torque Chap.
I really like my sport seats, & they are comfortable for me on long trips, I do put the seat back father & raise up the front. Leg room is a bit low, but you learn to adapt. I'm 6ft & 250lbs.
I've driven my C4 in deep snow/slush it had summer tires on it. It did great, & was just as good as my Audi S4. The rear engine really helps the rear tires bite. But I was a bit scared of all others on the road. I would have no troubles driving mine in bad weather. What sucks, is all other car will throw rocks & other road crap at you, & you can use a whole bottle full of windshield cleaner up fast if they use the liquid deicer, every car is bigger & throws it all over your car, & you can't see out the windshield with this crap on the car.

Hi Guys,
So little update.
I found a 1997 TT that was put up for sale 24 hours ago. I called the guy on the spot and getting a PPI done tomorrow.
The car is Silver with a full burgundy leather interior. Has many options including the Sport Seats , The white gauges , aluminum shifter and hand brake , Sunroof , Xenons and a few other things.
Car is very clean and carfax checks out. Just needs a good detailing which will be done before i pick up the car.
What do you guys think?
Better buy?

If i tell you then you'll call the guy!!
jkWell it's local.
This Turbo was actually a big fluke as i was literally leaving the office to go give a deposit on the C4S. Just before heading out i did a quick search on the net and fell on this. Went to see it right away. Dealer was 10 min away from my office.
Left a deposit on the spot and set up a PPI for tomorrow.
It's a 2 owner car.
Here's a pic of my current 997 C4S which is being delivered to the new owner on Friday... Will miss her but damn i'm so into this whole 993 thing!
