Oil Change Interval on a Seldom Used NB 993

Hi Guys,

Just need some helpful advice about my car. Basically I have a NB 993 that I only used during the summer. During the cold weather months, I would let the engine idle for about 45mins to an hour in order for the engine to reach it operating temperature, reving it once in a while, depending on how cold it is. I do this once or twice per month just to let the oil circulate and keep all seals, etc in good condition. I use Mobil 1 oil, 15W-50 synthetic oil as recommended by our local Porcshe dealer. I change the oil and filter once a year.

My question to all is, I am doing harm to my engine based on my above practice or not? Some people say, just let it sitting in the garage is better than what I am doing which to me seems to be a grey area among car enthusiasts, collectors, etc. Another concern is the formation of carbon deposits which would result in top-end work.

Is there also an issue with regards to the transmission oil for a seldom used 993 like mine?

Any comments or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Your fine with once a year. But I would not let it idle for that long. If you are in BC, there isn't snow or salt, so why not wait till there is a OK day & just take it for a drive? I get mine out at least once a month.

All other fluids, should be changed out every 3 years, or 30kmi.

Never rev the car until temp is up in normal range. Keeping the rev under 3k in cold start is always better.

Running 2x a month is fine. Once a month is plenty.

A 10min start should bring car to norm temp. Excessive idling puts strain on cooling.

I would put some gas stabilizer during storage months. Put some carpet under the wheels to avoid flat spotting.

As for engine oil, once a year is plenty. On newer 911, 2 yr is the oil change interval for cars in storage.
