'06 Boxster S vs '95 993 Cab

I am a Boxster S owner and I have come across a pristine 1995 993 Cab for sale. Can anyone tell me what the weight of this car is and what the performance/driving experience is like compared to my car?

I am aware that people here go nuts over the 993's--can someone fill me in as to exactly why? Did Porsche tame the snap oversteer that almost killed me in my '74 911 by 1995 or would I be happier (safer) in a 997?

(Lots of questions--sorry)

Thanks

Go & drive it.

The cab will be heavier then your Boxter & it will not handle as fast, or good. You will also give up a little storage space, but will gain a ok back seat. Build quality is higher on the 993, as is reliability. Also the 993's are not going to be going down in price anymore, they are trending back up, as Boxters are still going down.

0-60 the 993 is faster, it has more HP & torque over the Boxter.

On the 993 you either "get it" or you don't. I suggest you go & drive it, then decide for your self if you are in the "get it" area or not.

I would agree on driving it.

If I were to ever get a 993, it'd be a coupe, not a cab. In a cab, I want rollover protection and a glass rear window.

Snap Oversteer

Thanks for your responses.

Can you tell me if you have spun your 993's as I did several times with my 74 coupe before I totaled it. Are you constantly fighting its desire to swap ends?

Thanks

No, it's very, very planted, just like any other modern Porsche. I have yet to spin either of my 993's, but have come close while Auto-Xing.

The suspension is on an whole other level compared to all other Aircooled 911's.

Interesting comparo, I'm currently debating between a 993 C2 and a 95 NSX-T, so similar mid-engine considerations to the boxster I imagine - it's a tough call, but strangely the 993 is lower on insurance by a substantial amount! This may be the clincher.
