Passion

Like most of you, this is my dream car, but I know nothing of what it requires to possess one.

I am very tempted and would like to solicite your experiences.

I make 6200$ a month net and virtually no bills

I'd like an S but I really don't want to get over my head

I've owned a few Rovers which were money pits and I don't want to do that again - but I dont mind occassional expensive services

its a toss up between a 993 and the new 2008 Mercedes C350AMG kit (not the C63) which I like the style of and has a warnty.

It seems to me that clutches go rather quickly

If you could tell me if I can afford this, not as my only vehicle though I have 2 others (paid for), then perhaps explain to me the expected services I'd be very grateful!

the 993 is a very reliable car and not difficult to care for. But at times it does need care and there are a couple of specifics that you need to check on each car (wiring harness, CEL are probably the biggies)

Hey.......and aren't you looking to sell one B

What got you so chatty on this board?

In answer to the original question. Make sure to get a complete pre purchase inspection. Buy a well cared for car (if you're not inclined to do work on it yourself), maintain it and drive the hell out of it. If you wish to have a queen, they run 40-65K (model and option dependent), if you want a good driver, they come for about 35K (same as above). They are great cars, not the fastest, but one of the coolest by far for the $$.

Rennlist.com is a much more vibrant board than here for 993's. Very active and we all help each other out as B will attest to. GL with your decision. Oh and if you buy one and want cool looking and great sounding exhaust pipes......I make them

You can afford it. But most likely your payment will be about $1k per month. My credit score was 842, & the best interest rate I could get was 8.9%!!!!! That really hurt the monthly payment. Insurance went up about $75 a month, my other cars are both turbo's & kind of high insurance.

Your hardest part will be finding one you like. The cars are kind of "Ala Cart" so every one I looked at was very different. The base price changed quite a bit. The one I picked up had a sticker of $107k.
