Values of 993's

I could use some help guys/gals. I use to own a 99 996 and although a ton of fun and looked great, I still really like the 993 body style much better. But so does everyone else too?

Sorry for the newbie question, but why is it that it seems that clean 993's are actually going for more than 996's? I am looking at purchasing a 97 993 C4S Coupe, very clean, with 30K miles, some nice professionally done mods (suspension, 18" BBS LM's, and rear wing deck), original owner, fully documented for $45K. When you do a KBB on it, we're not even talking the same ballpark. The only problem with the car is that the sunroof motor is blown and no longer works, but I figure that could be fixed for less than $1K even through the dealer? Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I am ready to pull the trigger so long as I am not being foolish because of the value! By the way, I live in California where the values of everything is a bit skewed anyway! Thanks in advance!

H

It has more to do with market conditions vs actual 996 vs 993. There are fewer really nice 993's left. Additionally, there is a certain segment of the buying public that likes the 993 because it is the "last air cooled Porsche". Additionally, many people did not/do not like the fact that the 996 went away from the round head light look. Yes, these are all personal taste issues and I am sure that the 996 is a much better car in many technical ways. But I just love the look, sound and smell of my 993!

By the way, I looked for over a year until I found the car I wanted.

Good hunting,

$45k seems a little high. I would say it is ok for a perfect car. If a PPI checks out, start your offer in the low $40's. Good luck!!!!!

Don't listen to Luis... He is just trying to keep up the value on his 993...

I sold my 97 C2 in May of 2000 for 59K with 7,800 miles... It stickered for about 65 new....

If some one can get 45K for that car now... All the power to him... They drove if for 8-9 years for about 20K... What a deal.....

You will never see that type of value retention in Porsche again...

By the way.. I loved my 993 also...

Ok, I am an idiot...after looking at the ad more closely, I now realize that I described the vehicle incorrectly. The car that I am looking at is actually a 1997 993 C4S and not a C2. I haven't actually seen the car in person but will do so tomorrow. Sorry for the wrong info, but now it may seem more reasonable why the price is higher?!?!? Thanks again!

Like I said on your other thread, this is a good price for a low mileage C4S.

Last summer I sold a 96 C4S with 42K, Pss9, Euro sway bars, Turbo wing for $47K to the first guy that looked at it in the bay area. The car was a very very clean driver (not a garage queen) and the buyer and I agreed he was paying a little extra for that fact. Unless prices have changed, I think you are in the ballpark. Sunroof can't be that expensive.

relative rarity and desirability have kept prices up and better than the 996 which for many is the "964" of the series. Nothing wrong in my view with ANY 911, but for many, including myself, a 993 is the last the aircooled engines, the "dated" interior, the visceral feel and a very sexy exterior. I was following a black C4S the other day and I still found myself staring in awe that wide butt. No other 911 has the same effect on me, not even the new 997. Somehow these curves of the 993 are timeless and I think the most beautiful 911 ever produced. So with that in mind and a lot of people wanting one and owners like me keeping them for ever, the availability is much less than a 996 which were also made in more numbers than a 993. When it comes to these cars the Blue Book and all the experts are out of the window. It finally comes down to what the buyers are willing to pay. Lately pristine examples have started to sky rocket in pricing, keeping them out of reach even more for many. 45K for a great C4S for me is a price that I would be willing to pay if I was looking to buy, so in my book its a great price and you should go for it.

yes, the 993's are valued more than the early 996's. Shoot, you can get a 996 turbo in the $50's

I think that $45 is a very good price for a car in that condition with that few miles. Jump on it. or if you already did congrats.

history will show 993 is PORSCHE at its finest
call it the end of an era...but what an era it was
I guess it has a lot to do with what we grew up with, so if you are around 40 there can be no other 911
money no object I would still buy the 993
