996TT Represented us well - LV Nellis Shootout
Well it was a pretty long day and the event was not as smooth as I had hoped. It was very safely done though. Just lots of delays...
Anyway, I was the only Porsche in the field. It was loaded with Corvettes, several Lambos, couple of Ferraris, one McLaren SLR (he was DQ'd).
So here's how the story goes. All these guys are gathered there talking **** about how fast their cars would go. All of them were certain that I would get stomped by the Lambos, and the Z06's.
The field has 1 guy in Modified class (Modified Z06, very fast). The rest of the 20-25 entries are in Street Stock class (including me) with a tech top speed of 168. They did say in the drivers meeting that they would be understanding if you broke that just a little bit, but not understanding if you busted it out real bad.
So I'm in the last third of the pack to go and go 169.XX my first run. Next closest to me in this class is a Lambo at 164.XX. Nobody after me gets even close. The McLaren guy busts out a 176 or something like that so they warn him to let off at the end. He proceeds next run to go like 178 so they give him the boot.
Next round of runs I do a 167.XX and everyone else is also off a couple miles per hour. The wind was blowing pretty hard staright down the runway so the lower speeds were expected.
Last round the conditions looked good and the wind had settled and I make a hard push to hit 170. I got to the end and did a 170.50.
So long story short I beat the 2nd place guy by more than 5 MPH. Noone was talking any **** at the end
Although before the awards the Lambo guy was saying that I should be DQ'd because I went over the tech speed. The organizers saw it differently as they didn't feel that 170 was way over the 168 tech speed. And there was no hardware for 2nd place. I got the only trophy for top speed. There was a "regularity" trophy which was closest speeds over any 2 runs. A guy in a Magnum station wagon won it. There was also a big *** Rolls Royce that got third in the regularity category. That was funny to see coming down the runway.
My boys Raza, Rob, Tony, and Josh were all there. Rob and Raza took some awesome photos and there is rumor of a video tape of my first run. Would love to see some of it posted. Thanks guys for being there for support...
I'll scan and post the results sheet when I get home later.

Chris,
Sorry you missed it. I sure would have liked to have seen some more P-cars. I posted within a thread a couple weeks ago, but yeah I should have made a seperate post on it. They are talking about doing this twice a year at Nellis. They are saying they are looking at April for the next event.

Good stuff. These are very fast cars.
That's so silly in my opinion, what's the point if you can't go all out in a certain class and stuff like that...

Congrats on the run John, sorry I didn't make it.
I just got back into town a couple days ago and saw the post about it. I read the link and it said you have to have a fire extinguisher mounted in the car to run even in the stock class. Was that correct?

Buddy. Thanks I appreciate the compliments. My car is UMW Stage 1. Essentially flash and exhaust.
The modified Z06 went around 177, but don't quote me on that. I have the complete sheet at home and will scan and post tonight.
Funny thing is I thought the Z06's would all do much better. IIRC all of them went high 150's to low 160's.
Forgot to mention also that there was an Enzo there (for the car show). He did not compete but was allowed to take one run down the mile. He didn't look like he knew how to drive at all and still turned a 178. Would love to see someone really get on one of those and see what it's capable of.

WHOA. Sorry that turned out so big. I suck at this pic uploading thing. Anyway the very bottom got cut off but there was no good info there anyhow.
ENJOY!!
Should have said that the top few were in the 1/2 mile then the next guy down from that group is the modified guy then the rest of us on down.
