I heard that the 998 will start as a TT and not as a C2. It makes sense to launch a new line (e.g. 998) with the top model as a lot of other car manufacturers do it.

If Porsche starts the 998 series with a TT, then there most likely might not be a 997 TT ...for obvious reasons.

I HIGHLY doubt that, Porsche has never released the turbocharged version of the 911 before the naturally aspirated one. They didn't do it with the original turbo-carrera, 930, 964 turbo and 993. Usually it's about ~2 years after the naturally aspirated cars the turbo makes its debut.

Right. And usually a 911 has a an air-cooled boxer engine.

Don't get me wrong,.... I am not stating it as a fact that the 998 will launch with a TT... but I've heard rumors about it on several (mostly German) boards. And it would make sense to launch a new series with the top model, too... like e.g. Mercedes does it with the SL 500 & SL 55 before the SL 350 came out... or Lambo with the Murcielago before the Gallardo came... etc.

Again... please don't take it as a fact. It's a living rumor. Nothing more, nothing less ...but it definitely would make sense to me.

Sounds very similar to the autoweek quote. I'll bet this is the current plan. And barring some radical changes, will probably follow through.
