what can expect for maintenance on a turbo?
what can expect for maintenance on a turbo?
What are the costs associated with oil changes and other needed maintenance? I am not walking into a 2-3 grand per visit cost, am I? What else is known to go wrong on 02 turbos?
Thanks!
Chris
Thanks!

its not bad at all if you avoid the dealer. i am paying the same cost on maintenance as i did for the e46 m3.
for example, a brake job cost me the same as it would have for the m3...
the only thing that has gone wrong so far is popping the shifter assembly and cables. that was $1700 at the dealer, a total rip off...
oil change should not be more then $150 at an indy mechanic, including the oil.

It's not bad at all. I havent had any problems, and the only maintenance has been track related (pads, rotors, brake fluid, tires, extra oil changes), but aside from that the occasional oil change wont do you much harm.
I have put less than 4k miles on my car in the last year though (albeit about 500 of them VERY VERY FAST miles)

clutch/motor/clutch accumulator/radiator/transmission - be sure to get these all checked before taking the plunge. otherwise, routine maintenance. anything can happen in either modded/stock form. have tons of cash aside!
good luck!

Really not much goes wrong. At 56k miles, I'm still on my original clutch and brake pads.....of course I am a superior driver so YMMV
There can be intermittent $2-3k bills. Clutch for one. Too much mod = too little transmission sometimes
A turbo changeout can be pricey....kinda

Can you turn the rotors or do you have to replace them? On my Sequoia I go through front pads every 20k miles and I can get one turn out of them before replacing. I have 46k on the 996tt and i do not believe they have been replaced yet (purchased 996tt with 45k miles on it).

I would think you can turn the brakes on the TT. On your Sequoia they probably didn't put big enough brakes on it so they wear fast. It's also a heavy vehicle so that also contributes to the early wear.
Tires!!! I got hit for tires right off the bat. I could have done with out all new ones, but decided to go a head and be done with it. The most expensive part is modding the car. Its so hard not to
. Come on with it Chris.

I bought my car two months ago and recently had the first service. It was $3,750. For my money I received:
Full 30k mile service including spark plug replacement: $1,500
Replace front brakes (they are one time use, so everything had to be replaced including rotors, calipers, pads, etc.): $1,300
Replace Accumulator Ball on Clutch: ~$700
Brake Fluid Flush: ~$250
I would definitely plan on spending at least $1k to $2k per year on maintenance plus another $1k to $2k every so often on miscellaneous stuff unless you don't drive the car or can do it all yourself (or have a buddy or cheap mechanic you know that won't charge a lot). I had my work done at the dealer. I called a couple of independent places and they wanted the same amount for the 30k service as the dealer, so I figured I'd just use the dealer. Plus my aftermarket warranty requires that I have every required piece of maintenance done within 1,000 miles of when it is required to be done, and that I have a verifiable receipt to produce as evidence or they won't pay a dime.

Replacing the calipers? Anyone confirm this? pads and rotors are wear items, but calipers?
Indy is a bit cheaper. I.E. My brakes were flushed for 85$ and about 50 for the fluid I think.
Plugs 2.5 hours at 85/hr plust 10 per plug.
Oil 85. I bring the oil
Filters....air/pollen. I got them from an amazon.com supplier for about 20 ea, OEM.
So.....if you are creative, not bad.

You might be right. I have to check the receipt. It was $1,300 though, whatever they replaced.
$1300 would be pads and rotors likely, to replace calipers and all that, it'd be much more.
