Racing a 2001 996 TT

Just curious...
Does anyone know if you can race your TT with the Pca and what category and with the SCCA?
Thanks

Yes you can race your TT with PCA. Remember, that's what they do. Log onto a PCA website and you'll see the classes. I'm sure the SCCA has a class also.

The SCCA is heavily biased towards american cars, I dont know if they even allow AWD.

Nasa is ok, you can race a decent class. PCA might be good too, but they hit you pretty hard for having a TT if you have any mods. I say NASA or PCA, go for it and keep us updated.

They dont to too badly...hehe

I managed two first place finishes at the Summit Point PCA clubrace in October (woulda been 3 but uhh, dang nabbit dear...). The 996tt acutally has quite a few advantages over the gt3 if you know exactly how to use them (mostly with the conservation of pads and tires) and runs pretty strong with cars slightly above its class.

The 996tt when prepped to "stock" (everything I have is legal and well within the limits thats listed in the sig) is in B class...and the only thing it ever really needs to worry about is a perfect gt3 setup...which is suprisingly uncommon as many felt the gt3 doesnt need the best shocks/pads etc because it was "designed" to be more of a track car...which is ok to a certain degree...but when racing, every advantage needs to be taken...)

That said, you will BURN tires like its your business and pads will go in 2 days of practice and sprint races...19s work best. The gearbox is a bit quirky too...but its all good!

I love my TT and love what Sechsgang has going on and commend him for it.
But my honest opinion would be to race the GT3 as it was intended.
(assuming you are at that driving level)

What have you raced up to now and what race series have you done in the past and it would be easier to give advise.

oh ya...shoulda mentioned that Im moving into a cup car at some point...but honestly, gt3 vs turbo for CR or the likes is just too similar results wise to switch personally...but if you can go for a cup then well...haha

For what it's worth the track times over here between 997GT3's and 996TT's are very close with the GT3 a little ahead on tighter tracks and the TT just ahead on faster ones - in each case though only about 1 second in it. You will love the cup car, it takes handling to a whole new level and you have to totally re-educate yourself on braking points and corner speed - have fun!

I cant wait!

Its funny...I started tracking in the turbo and used to think damn, this thing comes to corners way to fast...now I find myself saying, g-damn it, why is this thing such a slow pig...haha...cant wait to find myself braking 150 ft later and carrying another 10 mph through corners...

That s where i am coming from...I am at the point where I want the right tool for the job...I want to figure out if and when I get serious about trying to "race" should I keep dumping money in the TT or consider switching to a gt3..I do love the power of the TT but as we all know weight is a factor....I don t consider myself a pro or a racer I do have lots of fun on the track and spend too much time there...
Thanks for all the input...

Eric

You're hooked buddy. I would just ask Fordahl to prep you a 996GT3 cup and go all out with it instead of wondering what if..
