CD changer install-what should it cost?

Can someone please give me a reference point here. The dealer said the booK (ohhhh, that lovely book) say 6 freakin hours to install a CD changer in my 02 996TT....I said forget it. He said he's see what he can do. I assume all that needs to happen is the wire(s) run from back of radio to the spot in the front trunk and bolt in the changer (these items are all of 2 feet away from ea other). What the heck is 6 hours worth of work here? How long should this take (what is fair?) I'm thinking no more than 2 hours. BTW, my dealer charges like $150/hour labor. This has got to be the only industry that charges that kind of rate that goes by book hour. A tech told me that by the book a clutch job in a 996TT is roughly a 24 hour job. 3 full days????? Please help me understand this. Thanks

The only other industry that charges over $150 an hour and makes the hours up as they go along are attorneys. Why bother with a CD changer. Get an IPOD adaptor (dension for example). Any high end audio shop can install one for about 2 hours and the adaptor cost less than a factory CD changer. It totally syncs up to your head unit (assuming you have nav) with full display and operations from your head unit.

The Denison is $500 and the iPod is another $250 to $400 depending on which one you get. With installation that is about $1,200 or so.

Say, you got a problem with that???

OT:

A doctor, a neurosurgeon actually, is getting ready for work one morning- wife tells him "Honey, the sinks is clogged". He tells her, "Call a plumber".

She insists that he deal with the plumber, so he calls and tells the plumber he is late for surgery and can he come over immediately. Plumber agrees.

15 minutes later the plumber pulls up, and diagnoses the problem, fixes it in 10 minutes. Presents the doctor with a bill for $626.

Doctor say, “Holy crap, I’m a neurosurgeon and I don’t even make that kind of money for 10 minutes work.”

Plumber replies, “Hey neither did I when I was a neurosurgeon”.

A plumber and his apprentice show up to an emergency call to repair a busted sewer pipe in the basement of a house. Before they showed up, the dirty water already filled up the basement waist deep. So the plumber, takes a deep breath, and dives into the **** filled water. He comes up after a couple of seconds and asks his apprentice for a 36 size wrench ,takes another deep breath and dives in again. This takes place about three to four times, where he asks him for different tools each time. Finally he comes up from underwater out of breath and tells his apprentice " Make sure you pay real good attention, because otherwise you'll be just handing me the tools till the rest of your life"

or just buy a cable that plugs into the back of your head unit and costs less than $50.00 and can be installed by you in under 1/2 hour, or take it to an indy shop and they can do it for you very easily
