Ive been using the faux shammy called the absorber for years now and it works great. Ive never heard of anyone else on the board using it as well.
Is this a good product to dry your car with?

i use it as well.. seems good to me.. havent had any problems..my shammy is now in its 2nd season of use. Someone was mentioning a different faux shammy though that supposedly holds a lot more water than the absorber does. I dont recall what the product was called though.

 

I use it frequently as a drying device but not really in the sense of a shammy. I still use the shammy for buffing wax and inbetween wax "detailing." It lasts longer if you never let it completely dry out between uses and keep it in the plastic tube for the same reason.

I heard that there is a 'blue' towel that is supposed to be better...I think it was posted a while back on the detailing forum here

I think the absorber is good. Keep in mind that with anything...if there is grit or dirt on it, it will start to lightly scratch the clear coat...may not be noticeable with some colors. My solution to eliminating any possiblity of get grit on the towel or absorber is to eliminate contact with the paint completely...This us achieved by the use of wind(air). I use a toro super blower that generates a concentrated wind speed of 130 mph. That's CAT 4 hurricane material folks. It works great, albeit the neighbors think it's a bit strange... :-) If you use it make sure you hold the unit upside down with the air intake facing the sky...that way you eliminate the possiblity of picking up anything from the ground and hurling it onto you nice paint...I finish off the car with my detail mist(Zaino in my case) using clean pure american cotton towels..Cannon towels to be exact...

Note: unlike towels or absorbers, the wind method gets the water out of everywhere...no post drip from area's like the door sils, handles, mirrors, rear lights, ect...dries the wheels well too...

 

I have used the Aborber and like it very much. I also use (and like even more) the P21 drying towel. I don;t know the exact name. It is made in Germany and works significantly better than the Absorber...

 

That is it. There is one other that is pretty nice. I think it is the My Garage supper shammy and the Kozak auto dry wash is worth checking out. I have a box full of different stuff.

 

The only thing bad about wind drying, I sometimes get little dirt spots around the bottom where dust or fine dirt adheres to the water spots.
