Slight brake squeal?
Does anyone know why stock(non ceramics) 996TT brakes squeal? I had squealing lightly once in a while and would stomp it once, that would make the problem go away but now that pads are like at 50% front, I hear a slight squeal every time I stop at slow speeds and nothing will make it go away?
Any thoughts or advice?
BTW: car is CPOed...will that cover anything?
Thanks

That's a good description. I just changed rotors, and installed Mintex pads, and I'm getting the Garbage Truck sound as well.
I recall reading here somewhere about beveling the leading edge of the pad. When I get some time, I may try that, as it is pretty embarrassing!

with about 40% left on the pads i replaced them with new mintex and the grinding/squeeling of my brakes went away. i dont know if the ones i replaced were OEM but they were made by brembo and when i looked at them, they looked very....metal. but when i compared them to the new brakes, the new pads werent that much thicker. dunno. thought i was the only one with the squeeling issue and its embarrasing for such a car.

I have the same problem on my F150 Supercrew. When it is cold it doesn't make a noise but if the air is hot it will start squealing. My turbo makes no brake noise at all...just wondering if temperature makes a difference. I thought it would squeal if they were cold.

simple solution:
1. buy the factory spiders ( they should be available) and put them on the back of the pads.
2. buy either the shims or the spray and paint the back of the pads.
Should remove most all the noise...

i have to check if they make them for the 996tt - but they did for the 993's (i'm new to a 996tt). essentialy they are a backing plate with a big spider claw in the center. they snap into the caliper and create a very very tight fit for the pad. therefore the pad doesn't squeak. call your dealer. they typically come with factory pads - that's how the factory pads are so quiet (in part)
The paint is called brake quiet. Go into your favorite autoparts store and they have it readily available. Here is the one i like:

The other solutions are brake anti-squeal liners. Here is an example: http://www.automotion.com/productpag...-Squeal+Liners
The spiders are by far the best solution (if available for this car from the dealer). They should cost you around $50 for a front and rear set. The shim/liners are the next best one (unless you track your car). If you track your car and heat up the brakes they tend to get hard and crack. Not a problem for your brakes, just no longer effective and a pain to get off.
