rjp is infamous around these parts
I picked up a new (to me) 01 996tt and it has this horrendous squeal. Has anybody else had the squeal and made it go away? I thought that one could lightly sand either the pad faces or the rotors to alleviate this problem on other cars...I think I had heard that somewhere, but I dont recall where.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

i was told not to feather the brakes ever, but "hard stop" as often as possible. eg when coming off a fwy ramp. rather than riding or feathering them to slow down, just hard stop them ( or as close to that as one feel appropriate ) and that will lessen the issue ( i mean, it has for me ) it is as everyone says, annoying a f*ck. when i'm ready to replace the pads i will try the upthread advice as anything will be better than what i've got now, but since i "hard stop" as often as i can ( unless i'm going downhill which i am a LOT living in a canyon..) it lessens the squeal tremendously. have NO idea why. it just does.

also, now that i've JUST had my 1st/2nd/ & synchros REPLACED! so i can again use 2nd gear to slow down w/out hangin onto the gearshift! ha. what a joy. feels like a brand new car. i guarantee i'll never ever misshift THIS one, not that i did before but knowing what i now know about the triple cone synchro whatever! my dealership came thru like a CHAMP though, i gotta say.

I fixed my squeal problem.

New pads
New anti-rattle clips <-- Mine were missing!
A generous application of anti-squeal compound
A good bedding-in.

Now there isn't the tiniest bit of squeal.

Good way to warn, people I did the same a while back when i gave my female friend (who is hott btw) a ride . She absolutely love P-cars and told me she has never sat in one before and have never "done anything"
I simply said, come on.
SO ....i told her there were going to be some noises and surely enough after about 15 minutes the pccb's began to squeal .
"i told you so"
"That's alright, hot commodities always make a lot of noise , she says"
