Ported Headers

Any advantage of ported headers if the car is less than 600 rwhp?

Thanks

Christian

I think most guys will port and polish their stock headers for max exhaust air flow if you are below 600hp and it certainly doesnt hurt. The question is usually do you need non-factory headers, there the answer at that hp level is probably no.

they are so restrictive you leave so much on the table if you don't port them.

Oak states...."they are so restrictive you leave so much on the table if you don't port them."

Oak: What are you basing that statement on? Do you have some dyno or other test results that substantiate that statement? I'm not being argumentive with you....I'm just truly interested in what sort of flow restrictions a set of stock headers might have....and if so, I would be interested in trying to correct that....however I do not intend to chase 600 HP, so other comments about porting not being worthwhile for lower HP would be a valid reason for not spending the money to port them.

chuck, you must be relatively new to the board. I was being facetious. grinding .050" of weld "crown" will not net any noticeable or measureable gain. total waste of time.

Oak! Who would you suggest to perform the best port and polish work for factory header? TKS!

Not worried about more power, but does it help the 16/24's spool quicker

Thanks

The more you restrict the exhaust, to some extent, the faster the turbos will spool (pressure builds faster)...of course the more you restrict the exhaust the less power at the top end you will have. For more power most folks opt for less restrictive air flow all around (more air in and more air out).

What is the problem you are having with your hybrids spooling? Mine spool quite quickly...

Thanks

Oak: I am new to the board....I know some of the guys on the other forums and know when the B.S. factor is flying, but haven't figured that out for this board yet. Thanx for the heads up.
