I agree with Raudel, Woodster and Joe. The 700 level is great! It's reliable, yet very fast. And it's not too bad financially compared to the lesser HP kits. I would do it once at the 700 level and be done...

The 700 is a very nice blend of reliability, power and price. And it's extremely entertaining to drive!

Sell it and buy something less tempting to mod, like an RS or better yet CGT

Marry money, no...wait, be born into money, no better still become the next Bill Gates or Steve Fossett that way I would appreciate it all.

But seriously, I would have spent more time learning to drive/race better at an earlier age. Go karts....Formula Mazda....F1 baby! That's where my boys are headed if they want it (they're currently karting). Horsepower, handling mods, etc....the weakest link is usually the driver IMHO. Porsche does a phenomenal job right from the showroom floor, and until I can match that level in my driving skill, the GT3 will remain stock (I am adding the roll bar and 6 point belts however, placebo effect, as I have been known to eclipse 160 at times).

I go along with WROSS....these big builds are great for the excitement of the chase, but once there..... one is seldom satisfied with the status quo and one plateau just leads to the need for another.

I find I'm quite content with a good foundation in a well designed suspension, a pleasing sound from a good exhaust system, and simply enjoy the performance already provided by the X50. I enjoy the built in performance already there and have no problem with staying where I am. Although I read that the cars are designed to accept 700 without any significant danger....I prefer the probability of engine longevity over the exhilaration of slam back speed at the potential expense of reliability. We are dealing with the question of what would you do differently...so my take is that I wouldn't do all the mods I did with the first one. I spent too much money on hype and am now better informed and more knowledgeable about what really adds reliable performance. I just flat wasted some money the first time around. I think I'd rather release existing power thru things like a better exhaust system than generate it with a flash. Yeah....I know....an old fuddy-duddy.

If I had it to do over again. I would buy the same Ruf I have now and a dedicated track car such as an ADR. I spent alot of money trying to make a street car a racecar. Bottom line is that no car does double duty well. If you want a racecar, buy one. Street cars break on the track ALOT. Further, they are not as safe, harder to work on and more expensive when you have problems.

If you are looking for a fast street car, 600hp is more than enough. Quite honestly, the driver is typically the determining factor in a race unless you start from a 60 or 70mph roll.

I would say that the vast majority of "[Mexican] street racing" is done from a 60 or 70mph roll, and having an extra 100hp can make a huge difference. I would agree that 600hp is plenty for virtually anything you will run up against on the street. The only real thing to watch out for is a Toyota Supra making more power. There might be others making more power, but they are very rare.

mods

"Sell it and buy something less tempting to mod, like an RS or better yet CGT "

Funny, this was my strategy when I sold my modded 996TT for a new 05 Mk2 GT3. A couple of months later it had RS seats, LWFW, cup suspension components and lsd, revised close ratio gears, modified shifter, muffler bypass and more. I was then contemplating Porsche Motorsport 3.8 kit before I sold to pick up my present GT2-also modded. Some just can't leave well enough alone. If I did it again, I would have started with the GT cars and spent more time at the track to enjoy them more. With turbo cars, I would go straight to a GT700 type setup.

Different? More patience and more research before proceeding on a path or purchase. Technology and cars are only getting better. Good luck.

out of curiosity, how much does it take to get to the 700hp level? is this doable on stock internals?

I have read all of these posts and if you have a 700 hp car in Houston then you will have a slow car. Check out all of the 60 to 130 times from H town.. pretty impressive. These are not the big boys! Tim's twin turbo Viper and a couple of more cars that produce over 1300 hp are running rampant here in H town... Unfortunately I live here, thus my thirst for powere will probably be never meet !! But it is fun and I do enjoy it. Cheers

The sad fact is, we all get accustomed to the power in our car after each successive mod. There are a million posts on here where someone mentions that their 700hp kit feels slow to them now, or that they are moving up to a new kit because the hold just didn't do it for them anymore.
Yes, you will save a lot of dollars going straight to the high HP kits, but you rob yourself of the 2 months of thinking "God Damn this thing is fast" after every progressive improvement. I may be alone in this, but I think the trip is half the fun.

Depends on the tuner but you also have to upgrade the clutch so $15,000 to $25,000 and I would not go to 700 without the internals. 600 hp max for stock internals.
