LWFW, Your car will thank you.
I absolutely love the silent clutch chatter that is stock in my 996TT.
I'm coming from a triple plate clutch in Supra with a Tilton light flywheel where the car just made a ton of noise at idle and was fast.. At first I got use to the noise until I got the porsche and realized I was living with a Beast in the Supra! I'm so done with the loud noises right now. In conclusion it helps a lot but it my sacrifice everyday tolerance after a while driving an extremely loud chattering cluthc setup. I'm sure one day I'll go back to that stage and start putting aggressive mods but it will be a while until the 996 bores me.

I don't know the Porsche 996TT community well yet, but I really hope that cars being down for years at a time due to engine/drivetrain buildups isn't considered normal. In the Supra world it just wasn't a big deal to have a car down for years at a time. Yikes...I won't miss that at all.
Is it possible that RUF uses a dual mass LWFW which is more heavy than very light single mass FW but lighter than OEM flywheel? If it is a dual mass then no noise...Also is ti possible that RUF just took the OEM FW and made it lighter?
If it isn't noisy, it IS a dual mass FW, period. The purpose of a factory dampened flywheel is to dampen those noises we all here and love so much. IMO, RUF probably modified the factory dampened flywheel so it IS lighter, but doesn't make any noise. Also, if you hate your clutch (it is like a toggle switch), a LWFW will make it even worse...
Yeah good luck with that!!!! Sleep with your checkbook and 1 eye open!!!
Seriously, same amount of labor to get to the flywheel, might as well stick a better pressure plate in too. You're next Mod will likely kill your clutch. It only took a flash and mufflers to kill my 45k mile stock clutch.

tick tock...
Agree. Mine slipped on highway pulls almost immediately after upgrading the software and the exhaust. You will be able to drive it unless you hit the 0.9-1.0 bar (that never happens, I know). Very simply, in my case, the stock clutch setup couldn't handle the power.
It's loudest when stopped in traffic with cars on both sides of you. The rattle will echo off the cars beside you and it does sound like something is wrong or broken. You will also hear it on take-off. Once driving at speed there is no noise and the car drives and revs great with phenominal throttle response. If you can live with the noise at idle, in traffic and on take-off - you're all set. Personally, I don't care for the noise, but many don't mind it. It's very individual - sort of like exhaust sound.
RUF GT2 - You're lucky if you have the LWF with no noise - I could go for that...

Did you in stall install a LWFW ? I love it but My sachs stage 2 slips on hard 3rd & 4th pulls since Tony at EPL tuned it. Just like Heavy Chevy.
I wonder If you or any body has the Sachs part #s for a stronger clutch.??

iLLM3,
Given you have no noise - are you sure you have a LWF? I was considering a RUF550 several years ago and they spoke of modifying the OEM clutch, but I was under the impression they used a modified pressure plate and alternative disk, but retained the dual mass flywheel.

you are absolutely correct. D33PBLUE has a Ruf550 car and it came with the dual mass flywheel and modded plate and disk. It is not a LWFW for sure. In fact UMW, put a hard stop redline on the car because of it. So if all the Ruf550 cars are the same, then it is definitely not a LWFW. well maybe it is 5 grams lighter
