Aaron,
That is very impressive, looks like OEM quality. How do you think an alcantara wheel will hold up over time? When it becomes soiled (or the alcantara knap gets matted down) over time from sweat and oils from your hands, since it is synthetic can you wash w/clean towel and mild soap and water? Or do you think can use a suede brush like you use for your suede shoes?
TIA.

Question on the dash with Alcantara, I see the air bag is there but what about it deploying with the Alcantara stitched over it? Is there a break away point for itn so it won't impede the deployment? I mean it looks great butto screw up your passenger over it would be way messed up.

Also Alcantara is a synthetic plastic, if you look at the Gulf fabrics brand vs the OEM brand you will notice that OEM brand is far superior. What they are doing is importing the Flame retardant backed stuff and selling it as Alcantara. It messes with the top surface giving it a grid pattern.

When i was going through gulf 3 years ago with it, I called and complained, then talked to the new rep in Detroit about it.

It just doesn't look the same, and honestly i think that some of it is OEM reject stuff because i could not get a perfect match on a BMW 760 headliner. Which i called again.

Finally I said screw it and paid the extra for a contact in Germany to get me what i need. Then it was $120/yd and the Euro was worth a $1.33. shipping is easy because it is a synthetic, it doesn't need to sit at customs forever

I still have that contact over there but it has been a while since I ordered any. i might buy a roll of black and gray from him and just sell it. it is pretty disappointing to see the quality go down at 475/yd for it when the $10/yd stuff looks just as good... though will not hold up.

Also Alcantara being a synthetic, you can wipe off a whole list of shiet, from wine to peanut butter and jelly sandwiches without leaving a permanent stain. using warm water and some minor cleaner.

Also shoe polish... i did a vehicle up in light gray with it and some leather.. the one thing he couldn't destroy!

In between the double stitching are breaking points for the airbag to deploy.

The swatches Gulf Fabrics sent me included a pamphlet that says they sell authentic Alcantara. I am happy the way the synthetic suede I used turned out so I have no need for any. I'll upload some pigs next week.

pigs? j/k you should see the OEM stuff, 10 times better. I know what they sell is Alcantara, but it is the FR, ask him for non FR and see what he says.

Careful there. I got some material from GAHH, which looks a lot like Alcantara but it doesn't match the OEM steering wheel or shift boot well. It's actually listed as headliner material so probably wouldn't hold up as well to wear. It also has a weird bluish tint that is very noticible under most lighting conditions. Better to source the real thing (Gulf Fabrics?)

are there any pics floating around with a full center console done in alcantara...
my console is scratched to sh!+ and rather than get a new one, maybe just cover with the alcantara.

the dash looks amazing... i would prob go with dash, center console, oddments tray lid, shift boot, ebrake...

I am seriously thinking the top part of the doors and the pillars also.... but maybe this is going overboard?
