Proper 6-speed launch
Trying to slip the clutch too much, at least on my X50, usually results in the clutch being unable to "re-clamp", and the aroma of fried clutch for the next hour or so.
I've had the best luck with short shifting like others have mentioned.

I have done a lot of practicing from a dead stop but still can't get it down flawless. I have a friend with a gread cherokee srt-8 that I run with to practice. I have been easing out of first and they take about a car lead on me to about 30mph, and then I hammer it, shift to 2nd and I am gone! Its just that off the line that I can't get. If I rush it, I either fry the clutch or miss 2nd.
I am not sure I understand slipping the clutch. Can someone explain?

Slipping it is a technique to raise the revs more quickly and build boost earlier. Helps immensely with peaky and turbo motors - you can get the motor quickly into the powerband, and use the clutch to slingshot the car.
Same effect as a higher stall speed converter on an automatic.
Worked great on most every car/bike I've ever had, but the 996 makes more power than the stock clutch can overcome once it is on boost.
Oh wow, then I really suck, because I have bounced off the rev limiter a few times! But I have definitely been getting better at launches over the past few months....only having the car for about 4000 miles. I would really like to learn how to properly slip the clutch.
Anyone in the Philly or surrounding area with some skills???

OEM is 6500 I believe, some say 6750 but mainly in the GT2, like they upped it from the Turbo to 997GT2 also by a few..
Both of mine (FVD/RUF) rev'd to 7200 approx, I would always shift at about 7k-7100 and it was perfect, would never bounce off..
It takes getting use too, you'll get it down pat

Mine goes to 7100 in 3rd and up, but 1rst and 2nd dont seem like the tach is accelerating as fast as the car and I hit about 6800.
i wish i redlined at 7k or 7.1k or 7.2k that would be great - the OEM redline is too low, dont like it and not used to it either - seems like a reason right there to get the GIAC flash, (couldnt hurt on the X50 either

But I could see it being feasible if you were to slip it fairly slowly. I believe i was at 3.5-4k rpm when i tried. But then again our car is bone stock so that could change things
Yup from first on, in my old turbo and even a little higher in my GT2.. Much harder in my GT2 although easier in a different way. The GT2 rev's SO MUCH FASTER then my ex turbo with the low clearance 24's, and LWFW, but with the lack of traction I have more time to modulate clutch and spinning before a shift. My turbo had all of the traction and the tach would fly up in first, you get use to it though!
I thought my Z was hard to launch. Took me about 5-10 launches to get it close. On street tires, I pulled a 11.7 at 123 stock on maybe my 6th try. Sort of quit after that. Launces are so abusive on the drivetrain.
I have not perfected the launch in my Ruf. Actually, haven't really tried. The wheel hopping makes me cringe.
I do sincerely believe the gear ratio needs to be massaged. First is way too short, especially as you move up in the horsepower. These guys that are at 700+ and have stout clutches could surely launch in 2nd.
