Is the 996 Turbo S worth it

Im thinking of trading in my 2003 Turbo for a 2005 Turbo S. Do you guys think its worth it? Ive considered and dismissed the Vanquish, DB9, Gallardo, Murcielago, 360, and 575m. I want to get it to hold me over until the 2nd or 3rd year production of the new 998 turbo's, the only reason i did not consider the gt2 was the lack of options

I haven't had much luck with Ferrari's, my brother has a 550 , (its a joy to drive), But since the day he had taken delivery, it has been a nusiance, the Dealership is the worst. there are rumors that the vanquish was thrown together from the ford Corp recycle bin ( door handles a la mazda miata, and other parts volvo), the gallardo is too much audi and not enough Lambohrgini, i saw it in person and is just not what i like, very photogenic, just looks different in person. For the price the the turbo seems worth it, i am going to my dealer tomorrow to seem how much i can get, my turbo is a 2003 model with 9000 kilometers, its only been driven for a couple months of the year. the 420 has been annoucned so the 360 is going to become much cheaper. and i'd rather wait for the audi version of the gallardo, now thats sick!!!

ffr996,

Its not worth it. Just save the money and mod the Turbo. I too was looking into trading my '04 Turbo for the S. But all the S is is a normal Turbo with X50 and Ceramic brakes. I'd rather just do a Stage 4 GTR until the 998 Turbo arrives or the new 420 is introduced.

I also looked at an '04 360 when I was trading in my '03 Turbo but it really didnt excite me as much as I thought it would. I didnt even bother looking at the Gallardo since I dont like the styling of it at all.

Cant wait to see what the new 420 will look like and what kind of performance it will have!

I don't really have a budget to stick too. My 911 turbo is located in Switzerland, i plan to bring it up to boston drive it around for a while and then plan to do an evo stage 4 gtr or evan a stage 5. i already ordered the exterior modifications for it from my dealer in boston and all i have to do is wait for it to be shipped to Switzerland. i don't have the x 50 and i just feel like im missin somthing. my current 911 is triptonic so im thinkin of getting a manual. and i must say Cobalt blue is starting to grow on me (or Ferrari's tour de france bleu). With all the mods im going to be installing im not going to sell trade it in for a 998 turbo im just going to get it. what do you think Aero TT

I drove the Gallardo before my '04 TT arrived just in case...I was very disappointed. The ride was harsh, the build quality didn't seem to be there either and I just plain wasn't impressed at all. Furthermore, the dealer had over 12 Gallardos sitting on the lot. These things aren't selling from what I can see. If it weren't for the back seat issue, I would have bought a GT-2 in a heartbeat. The "S" isn't worth it unless you really want PCCB. The extra HP is easily surpassed with a $500 GIAC ECU upgrade.

I think the other benefit is just that it's an 05. A lot of people on this forum have owned a few 996 Turbos, so why not get the new S model and have a rare car and a new car?

Is the Turbo S worth it? It so much depends on the individual.

I like my '02 so much I may keep it for a very long time. It is very easy to modify, and the styling (especially the interior) is just great to me. If anything, I would trade it for the 998 Turbo IF the 998 was something I couldn't live without. I doubt that happens.

ffr996,

It seems like we are not really missing anything by not getting the X50. Even a $500 Upsolute Chip will pull a stock x50. Do a stage 5 and nothing will be able to touch you!

Can't see it being worth it,why not just chip you're existing car ?

ALso the ceramic brakes..in england the GT3 whichhas ceramic brakes has come in for some serious stick ,the brakes are cracking apparebtly and Porsche claims its due to wear and tear therefore not covered by warranty..it costs £12000 ($20000) to replace them apparently.

The interior is too conservative (Audi's classic style).
The Audi Le Mans Quattro is an audi, yes, but does not have the audi "classic design"
